Independance Day...

I was wondering what July 4th meant to people. Are there interesting events that go on today? Or perhaps you just see it as a significant event.
I'm mainly doing this because as some of you may know, I'm British, and therefore don't celebrate this day (damn revolutionists...). So I wanted to see what it's like for those that do.
Yeah... A day of freedom. Or genocide if you want to be pedantic, but meh.

I only celebrate it by watching the explosive Tom & Jerry episode.

Good movie. I had better not be the only one here who's seen it...
To me, it means staying up late with rumbling explosive colors and sounds, some tasty snacks, and good company.

Making maps, staying home, being lazy, watching fireworks, eating stuff, all that jazz, bro.

Earplugs. Good ones.
Locking up the cats in the house so they can't run away and get eaten...
Making sure to close up the garage so we don't get the neighbors' dogs hiding in it. That happens too much.
Not being able to get to sleep because the idiots across the street are setting off the loudest firecrackers they can until four in the morning, not to mention the gunshots.
Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan o' this holiday.
This year we're going to hike up to the top of Mount Lassen, though. We've done that once before, and it's a lot of fun. You're far enough away that you don't have to worry about split eardrums, and you can see the fireworks form cities all around. Its really cool.

Hmm... All we practically do over here is sit about, moan as if it were a normal day, and cast a glaring eye over the country that was once ours...
Or perhaps thats just me.

The country is more American every Gorram day. I like how 'intellectuals' think that the country is being stolen by some minority that somehow manages to outvote them most of the time. The reason why everyone thinks that Americans are fat and lazy and stupid? Because fat and lazy and stupid /is/ part of being an American. And it rocks.
Happy fourth.

It means going downtown with the drunk people and watching fireworks, pretending to be drunk, getting drunk, drinking. AND THEN BARRY MANILOW.

Tunco, I think the central theme of the dissent is that the United States never belonged to Turkey.
