Glorious uisge beatha, aquavitae, water of life, whatever you like to call it. What a wonderful beverage. The perfect compliment to the day. Discuss.

I'm not old enough, but my dad does a lot of the Scotch blend.

Fuck pie.
I've tried on multiple occasions to enjoy the taste of whisky, and every time has been a catastrophic failure. I can barely finish a shot of the stuff unless I slam it.
A friend of mine (who prefers Irish Blend, most notably Jameson's, if I'm allowed to vote on his behalf) says he wants to sit me down one day with a large variety of whiskies (which made it sound like cat food) to get me used to the taste.

Bourbon, baby. Although I'd never argue with the rest.
Either on the rocks straight, or with a splash (and I mean splash) of coke.
Hmm.

Whisky is the King of drinks. Gin in the Prince of drinks. Vodka is the Fool of drinks.
Jack and Coke (read: Black Velvet and Coke) was my cheap drink of this year. It won out over red wine pretty early on this year and is now my everyday juice. I can drink myself silly daily at about $5 to $10.

I'm not a fan of spirits in general but whisky would be my favourite if I had to pick. And as far as generally inexpensive whiskies go I prefer Jamieson's to any other. But if Chivas is on the table I wouldn't say no. Shot or straight is preferable; adding something sweet just brings out the sweetness in the whisky, which I don't like.

I'm a rum person myself, but when I do have whisky, it's a bourbon.

Wish I could revote as to what my Dad likes...I know he likes Scotch Single Malt. I hate the taste of the stuff personally.

When I drink whiskey, it's usually Jack, but that's just because I'm cheap.

Ha! Then you don't know what it is to be poor, liberal elite! Black Velvet is the whisky of champions. Sometimes it's cheaper than milk, so you can pour it over your Cheerios to save some cash.
*vomits a little into his mouth*

I know must ask this every few months or so, but I don't think I'll remember unless I finally end up making one. Next drink I have will be a Black Velvet, I swear.
Now... what the hell is in it?

The Black Velvet that Dave is referring to is a Canadian blended whisky. The other "Black Velvet" is an unrelated cocktail composed of stout and champagne.

Yes.
But, Velvet and Coke tastes mostly like Coca-Cola--only Coca-Cola that gets you drunk. I don't find that the Coke beings out too much of the sweetness of the whisky.

So it's a Jack and Coke, but with
some other random brand?
I don't think I've ever seen it on sale anywhere. Then again, I get most of my liquor from the same grocery store.

Havin' a Red Velvet now. It tastes quite a bit like rum and Coke to me. Y'know, until I get that face-melting feeling that whisky tends to give me.
