Considering the article's content, I don't think any animals were abused.

My physics teacher in junior year gave us an assignment to read this article in a packet.. about cats falling from stories high and landing on their feet.

You know I've seen this kind of thing before quite a few times.
I think there are a number of people who hate cats on principle and want to kill and/or maim them.

I'm no animal freak, but that's sick.

Aha. This is one of the cool factoids I used to strike up conversations with friends in a boring physics class.
