Here's my situation:

- Was just released from jail

- Do not have a phone

- Have a 9 month pregnant girlfriend

- Have no way of contacting her

Here's my request:

Could someone please call her and let her know I'm out of detention? I'm in Colorado so it would most likely be a long distance call but I need to know if she has had the baby yet, if she's healthy, and really just to let her know I won't be able to talk to her for a while unless she gets on a computer.

Add me on MSN, so we can arrange a time or whatnot. [email protected]

Oh, and by the way, I used to be a member of the old forums- I went by the title of Viridovix, if anyone remembers me.

You can find one of these at your local airport, along with a number of other places.

Also, if you don't look totally sketchy (unlikely since you just got out of jail), most people will let you borrow their cell phone to make a call.

You can pick up a mobile for something in the $10 region probably so grab a cheapie and make the call, if you have money that is.

If you have access to a computer with internet, it seems unlikely that that same person would not let you use the phone.

I remember you, but I'm also having a hard time believing you can't find a way to contact your girlfriend.
Email? IM? Social networking? Any other real-life friends who actually know you?
Shit, if nothing else, make an account on Skype. They give you one free phone call, if memory serves.

This is all Sparta.

Why else would I be resorting to the internet?

My dad pays for the house I live in but works out of the country. Before I went to jail, we both had cell-phones and we saw no reason for a house phone. However, while I was in jail, my cell-phone contract was terminated, and my dad has further yet to install a house phone. I have no job to pay for anything, either, considering I was released yesterday on JISP.

And what, your dad's a hermit?
Spend five minutes on the street asking for spare change and use a payphone. Shit is not difficult.

What? My dad is Senior Vice President of a Fortune 500 multi-billion dollar company called Avnet. He was acquired by a larger company called IHS that relocates him across the globe every year or so.

I don't know why a simple task requires so much background information from me. I'm not an idiot. If I had access to a pay-phone, or was able to scrounge up change from people on the street, I would.

I'm also under house-arrest so if I DID try to walk to the nearest town, I would be violating JISP, and be sentenced to 2 years in a DYC facility.



I was locked up for various reasons. Mainly not cooperating with Probation.

Did I not say that he is relocated across the globe every year or so? My intention behind that was for you to know he does not live with me.

Wait a sec, Flight, does Google Voice allow you to make outbound calls from the computer? I started using the service recently, and you need to associate it with a phone before it's of much use. When you tell Google Voice to make a call, it rings your associated phone and then connects you to the other guy. Or is there something I'm missing?

I was actually looking to their SMS service, which is free regardless of whether you have a phone linked to Voice or not.

But if you want to make calls you have to connect with your own phone. (Unfortunately)
