What I'm referring to you is this:

How many real friends do you have on Facebook? Sure, you have thousands of friends on Facebook (or not, you have at least more than one). But, maybe, at least one or more of them are people whom you don't really know (or is not really your friend, only on Facebook). So, I'm referring here to only the number of friends on Facebook whom you really are friends too, not just on Facebook.

I only have maybe 55 people listed as friends on facebook in the first place. 20+ are family. Of the other 30, I talk to at least 2/3 of them regularly. I don't add that guy from that one class that I had that project with one time.

Over 750. I know them all.

Aw, jeez, I don't really know. Everyone who's on my friends list is someone I've met in person and hung out with. On the other hand, I really don't talk to the vast majority of them anymore, and if we passed each other on the street, we'd probably just say acknowledge each other and keep walking. With some, we'd probably each pretend we didn't see the other.
I'm going to guess that of my ~350 friends, maybe 20 to 30 of them are people I'd hang out with if they invited me somewhere.

I have 250 friends in total on facebook, I'd say about 50 of them are friends of friends.

I have 289 friends, around 25 being in Corsica, 5 being in Sierra Leone, 20 Metanetters, 10 family friends, and the rest are school friends. I don't add people that I don't know or ever spoken to... ever.

From that, I'd say all the Corsicans, the Sierra Leoneans, 10 Metanetters and all the family friends, and about 80% of my school friends, about 230.

I have 107 friends total, with almost all being friends I know in real life.

Decent friends: ~100
Close friends I spend time with most days (depending on uni or home timeage): ~50

Same as Tsuki. I recently culled my list after having some kind of 24 hour existential bug, no offence to those of you I got rid of. I just felt like removing everyone I never communicate with.

Of the 123 that remain, pretty much all of them I have some kind of communication with. About 20 are people I'd call up myself and ask out, 50 or so people I'd respond to if asked out, and the rest I either find interesting or have some kind of professional link with.

About 200.

Facebook is a wonderful social tool for free/easy/efficient communication with friends. Plus the potential to meet new people (if so inclined) is great. Plus it's a lot less impersonal than giving out phone numbers, so it's easier to ask that girl you like for her facebook...

Lots of positive stuff, absolutely zero negative that cannot be negated with personal settings.

Speaking as someone who only just acquired facebook today, I'd say that it's not as bad as many people, and, judging by your comment, you, make it out to be. While it may be true that there's a lot of stupid and pointless stuff/people on there, it's not that hard to avoid them, like atob said. If you have tried it before and disliked it, then fair enough, but otherwise I'd strongly advise you to check it out before dismissing it.

I dislike social networking. The only people I want/need to talk to, I encounter on a regular basis.

I have 63 friends on Facebook. The majority are from here, Metanet.
