IRC :: Where should it go?

I've been thinking, and it seems that as IRC is an integral part of the N community, that it needs a place in the new forums. So, where do you think it should go?
I was toying with the idea of an IRC Forum, where info relating to IRC, such as the help, redirection link, topics pertaining to IRC, etc could go.
On second thought, it could also go in the Community Projects forum. Maybe.
Discuss.

I think it should go under CP. One pinned thread for everything concerning IRC.

blue_tetris is adamant about not adding any sub-forums, and since there's no B&T equivalent in these new forums anyway, it should get its own section. There would be too many pinned threads in Community Projects if we placed it there. Also, transferring over the helpful guides to IRC would be advisable, although one of the posts in that thread is out of date. It still shows ircfrenzy.org (or whatever it was called) in one of the tutorials.

own section sounds like a good idea.
CP would get quite cluttered, and it seems a little.. unfitting. though one thread could work I suppose..

*I retract this statement*
Actually, there needs to be a links forum in Community, where only mods and such could post new topics. Most of the threads would be locked links to the other metagoodies, but there would be one unlocked with a link to the IRC where people could post their IRC Quotes.

I think an IRC forum would be too much, but we definitely will need a topic like this one
http://metanet.2.forumer.com/index.php?showtopic=2932 in the new forums.

The whole point of the IRC channel is to provide a place to talk about the forums and such in realtime, so you don't need a section of the forum to talk about IRC. It's pointless. All that is needed is the IRC topic that behappy just posted for people to get information on IRC and ask questions if they need help. And this one thread hardly needs its own section or sub-section.

...oops. Let me clarify something.
IRC shouldn't get its own "regular" forum, there should be a redirect board for IRC like the sub-forum we currently have in B&T at forumer, only it will not be a sub-forum. Currently, when you click on that redirect link, it will open up the channel in your IRC client, which happens to be Chatzilla for me. That should also be implemented here.

Yeah we did talk about implementing that link before we moved, but it seems that the guys haven't put it in yet.

I think there should be a direct link in the bar under the banner.

this seems like the best idea so far.

It'd be pretty easy to just create an 'announcement' topic for #N and leave it there, or better yet, we'll just bring back the old topic from Forumer and make it global.

QFE. What's the point in creating a lot of junk, when you can just move one topic over nice and easy?

Get the info from the original post about IRC, and put it into discussion, pinned.

I actually really like the idea of putting it at the top somewhere, near the forum logo.

I agree with the link near the top, and also, I think one of the admins should just make a new thread that gives all the information, and then lock it. Or maybe even put it in the FAQ. But either way, that way, all the information would be in one place, and there is no need for a thread about it. Perhaps later on an IRC Quote thread might surface, and that would be fine. Although, maestrosync.com seems to work just fine.

I'm thinking it would work perfectly with a direct link under some logo, or in the page somwhere. And then have a thread in FAQ just for IRC to help people get where they need to be to become part of the community in the IRC.

Perhaps in its own forum... maybe under Fun And Games, or at least somewhere in the Community section.

Hey!
I was going to suggest that!

One of the things I dislike most about the new forum is the like of subforums. It's probably because of my crazy desire to be super-oraganzied (you should see my Documents folder). I think this is a good example of needing subforums. IRC isn't really worthy of it's own forum, but it should be included somehow. Perhaps it would fit into a subforum if those still existed.

I agree with epigone. Subforums make things much easier to organize. Why have they been left out, specifically?

Why no subforums?
We wanted to clean up the complexity of the old forums and implement something more intuitive and much easier for members new and old to understand.
(from FAQ)
I don't think it's complex, so much as organized, though.

I read that, but for me sub-forums makes a browsing experience more intuitive and efficient. Separating map pack threads from general mapping requests/advice etc..

I like it better without the subforums. It's easier to access everything now, and I imagine a new member would find it easier to navigate as well.
It seems at this point that then old topic be ported into one of the forums and also put into a link at the top of the page. Maybe next to the Nwikia, Metanet, Mapwiki, etc..

i think it should have its own section subforums and topics related to the IRC.
there will be much more stuff coming in from the old forum and it will become pretty cluttered pretty quickly
