George, drop the stick, and back slowly away from the horse carcass.

Don't get me wrong, the original trilogy is untouchably great, but the prequel trilogy is also SPECTACULAR, and a new trilogy set in the most exciting part of the expanded universe is great fucking news.

Bets on whether Lucas is absolutely insane and we get another Jar-Jar like character in the first movie?

Well, I read it in a Cracked article. The basic idea is that it was a much less "happy" ending than the one that made it to film.
I can't seem to find the specifics, though.

Kurtz also explains how Return Of The Jedi would have ended originally, in the outline that Lucas and he had come up with before Lucas decided to change everything to make it more of an upbeat toy-selling vehicle. Luke and Leia would have rescued Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt, but then Han would have died halfway through the film, during a raid on an Imperial base. (This is something that Harrison Ford has mentioned before as well.) The film would have ended with the rebel forces in tatters, Leia struggling with her new duties as queen, and Luke walking off into the sunset alone, like Clint Eastwood at the end of a spaghetti Western. It would have been a more nuanced, muted ending to the saga, instead of the Ewoks dancing in the forest like a "teddy-bear luau." (Apparently that genius phrase is the work of the L.A. Times' Geoff Boucher.)

Never once have I seen this word in connection with those movies.=w= wrote:but the prequel trilogy is also SPECTACULAR

This could be good or it could be very, very bad. To me, it depends how they approach the entire project; rather than a heroic, save-the-day blah blah blah everyone lives generic teddy-bear party, they bring Tarantino in to direct and kill a whole bunch of people off. Kind of like what BB and TDK did for Batman.

I sat and thought about this and could not leave it at that.
Fuck you!
A) STAR WARS IS ABOUT THE GOOD GUYS HEROICALLY SAVING THE DAY except for THE PREQUEL TRILOGY WHICH INVOLVED DOWN ENDINGS IN ALL THREE FILMS which you apparently do not like.
B) FUCK YOU IN THINKING THAT WHAT STAR WARS NEEDS TO DO IS KILL A BUNCH OF CHARACTERS THAT'S STUPID
C) QUENTIN TARANTINO WHAT
D) BATMAN BEGINS AND THE DARK KNIGHT DIDN'T DO SHIT FOR BATMAN! LOOK AT FUCKING FRANK MILLER 20 YEARS PREVIOUS
E) THE DARK KNIGHT SUCKS

While I don't necessarily think that Tarantino would be a good pick, I do agree that making three cheesy fan-wank movies in which the entire audience erupts into applause when a familiar character dramatically struts onto the screen would be a terrible idea. For me, and many others, the old Star Wars years are over. I don't want to see the same thing again. Either they take the movies somewhere new (eg, James Bond, Dark Knight, etc.), or they don't bother.

You also make me sad. Do you love all the movies with high percentage scores on RottenTomatoes, or do you just find the ones that have high percentage scores on RottenTomatoes make your opinions more correct.Universezero wrote:While I don't necessarily think that Tarantino would be a good pick, I do agree that making three cheesy fan-wank movies in which the entire audience erupts into applause when a familiar character dramatically struts onto the screen would be a terrible idea. I say, fuck trilogies. They should make as many movies as it takes to make each one tell a good story.
Also, I like Tarantino, but I don't think he'd be a good fit for Star Wars. I mean, yeah, at least the next movie wouldn't be a toy factory.
I would like to see someone die. >:3
I liked The Dark Knight, because of Heath Ledger, and hated it, because of Christian Bale.

General Grievous was my favorite villain of all time until I actually saw him in the movie. BUT it's alright, because he was bad-ass in the Clone Wars mini-episodes made by Genndy Tartakovsky WHICH ARE FUCKING AWESOME.Universezero wrote:They better not fuck up like they did with the Clone Wars.

I have no opinion. I'm simply stating that your opinion is the reverse of most of the populace. The point is that Star Wars could be a little less comic-like and more gritty and serious, such as in Casino Royale. Is that a better comparison for you than TDK?=w= wrote:You also make me sad. Bond was way better before they made it serious. And fuck off, most of the populace. Critical consensus very rarely represents the population of Earth. And even then, who cares if my opinion is the reverse of most of the populace? I still think that movie sucks and that you people don't know shit about Batman if you think it's the gritty new edge superheroes were looking for. Comic-book readers across the globe know that we've been dealing with the ramifications of every comic being gritty for twenty years. Thanks, Moore and Miller!
