Ugh. I can picture this being presented to an office full of drones in a doomed attempt to motivate them.
People don't pay this much attention to everyday tasks because it's tiring and stupid.

Not all the time, but occasionally, sure. If you spend all of your time appreciating what you have, you end up with nothing, but if you spend none of your time appreciating what you have, you end up with nothing.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance said it better if less succinctly.
Also, I thought this was going to be another Minecraft thread.

The intended effect of the passage on a typical tech-support worker -- tech support is my go-to example of a shitty job, because it is just perfect for that -- is to make them work on improving their situation so they don't work tech support anymore, and devote themselves mindfully to that. In principle, it's because focusing on unfulfilling tasks is infuriating.

I've been trying to do that shit, sometimes with that exact example; cleaning a countertop like that. Suki's right, it's quite infuriating and tiring and just ugh. I dunno. Maybe I'll try again. Maybe I'm just some lazy motherfucker. Maybe I didn't do it right or something. Feh.
