Seriously, it's hard enough to live on a stipend as it is. Most people who do postgraduate work in the sciences are working effectively
pro bono and could easily draw a higher salary somewhere else -- I turned down offers of more than twice what I'm making now to study physics.
Professors make bank, it's well-known. Grad students and postdocs get shafted.

@aidiera I was a bit confused by the seemingly scathing remark about "typical dropout" in reference to Bill Gates... A coherent explanation of that portion of the diagram would be be refreshing. I took this year off university after my grades waned severely last year and I needed a year off to reset my direction and figure out what the fuck I was going to do professionally.

it's a joke bro
the lack of congruence between gates's overwhelming success and the stereotype of the college dropout generates what we in the biz call humour

Hah. I feel so stupid now... I was extremely fatigued when I wrote that :P I've had this archaic "finish your degree or starve" lecture burned down my throat for so long I was oblivious to the irony.

Ambitious, considering the response to every White House petition that gets enough signatures is "fuck you, no" in governmentese
