Will there be metanemberism on these new forums, or something similar?

Nope. We figured we'd get rid of some of those useless divisions between the forumers Now, everyone has essentially what Metanembers had--the ability to edit and delete their own posts.

Wait, metanembers only had the ability to edit and delete their own posts? Could they edit other people's posts?

Everyone could edit/delete their own posts, Metanembers just gained the ability to edit without having to leave an "Edited by" line. Other benefits were locking your own topics and higher file attachment size. I'm fairly certain that PM storage space was also increased.

Editing other people's posts is too dangerous of an ability to have been given to Metanembers, as trusted as they were.

No, normal members couldn't delete their own posts. That was one of my most appreciated features when I got Metanembership.

Metanembers also had access to the calendar and the Mod CP (although I could never do anything in there, so I just left it alone.)

No, we couldn't delete our own posts.

EDIT: Sorry incluye, your post wasn't there when I replied.

"When I first joined these here forums, I could delete posts, but then the delete post button disappeared, taking away the delete post function I had for a good day, and making me think I did something wrong.

Did I do something wrong?

EDIT: Nevermind? It just reappeared again. =?
Double Edit: I just noticed it depends on the forum our posting in. Ignorance on my part.
Triple Edit: Oh. I see. X/

You can delete your own posts only when it is the latest post.

I didn't even notice that. I guess you just have to be extra careful if you hate messing up posts.

I'm glad there is no equivalent of Metanembership. If there was, I'd never reach it.

On one hand this is good, because it was slightly unnecessary.

On the other hand, this was good as a vague status of dedication, power... etc.

But still, I think it's probably better without it.

I'm really glad everyone can delete their own posts now. Perhaps we'll see a decrease in double posts, crappy posts with lots of grammar issues and misspellings, etc. Good move.

Leave it to the fascists with the already superior social status of moderator to decide that we little people don't need a class stracture!
Curse you, corporate_daveica!

i wish i was a metanember

i guess that its for the best that everyone is equal now, no more fighting :)
but it would be nice to have something that newer members could look up to besides mods

Yeah; Metanembership meant you had worked hard and were trusted in the community.

So now there's no way to distinguish normal members from members that have contributed/whatever Metanembership requires?

If a member contributes enough, you know them by name--not by some symbol or title attached to their posts.

I don't understand the need for stratification of the Metanet community. It seems like playing favorites. Your reputation will precede you if you make a good example.

If you really want it, we can come up with six different ranks with identical posting and editing privileges to reveal how we feel about people. I don't like the sound of that, though.

As Dave said, people get their reputation by name alone. Twistkill and Yanni got noticed for being cool guys that contributed a lot to the forums and got promoted to moderators. But this is not to say that Yanni or Twistkill need those titles to get recognised.

For example, lets take Dave. Fair enough, the guy moderates, operates, administrates and regulates pretty much every facet of metanet, but if you take away the titles and the power, you are still left with the same old arsehole awesome guy. These 'decorations' do not make Dave awesome. It's his humour, style and personality that make him awesome. See where I'm going with this?

P.s., I did slightly exaggerate his popularity to make this analogy more understandable. ;)

Sort of related, how come we can no longer lock our own topics?

Well, only metanembers could do that, no? Since there aren't any metanembers, no one can do that any more.

Regards to the locking issue, it's nice to leave topics open. If the mods think there is absolutely no further discussion possible, they'll lock it. Simple. (Ah, bit of a moot point.)

Except for mods, o'course. But regular people can't. Sort of means you need to watch out when you start topics.

do we still get custom titles...

No need to panic.

Metanembership is useless here now. We can delete our posts (if it's the latest), and if not, just edit them. *jumps on the bean bag chair* Sou.. Soul City skin... gone? ;_

QFE'd. But if there's really no future discussion in sight, the mods shouldn't even need to lock it. The conversations here are self-monitoring. Metanembership was a social caste created under the auspices that a forum can't run itself. And I think it can.
