Rockbox

it's...beautiful.

I knew there had to be something like this, but I didn't know of anything until now. Plus it supports flac and ogg.
Anyhoo, if you have an iPod and iTunes, you'll want to get Requiem to convert your .mp4's to .m4as. Incidentally, this does not make freely sharing the files possible-well, to be fair, it technically does though that would be very stupid as the .m4a files contain your personal information (and I'm betting your CCN is in there).

I absolutely love Rockbox. I run it on my old iriver H10.

My roommate put Rockbox 3 on his iPod, cut his battery life in half, just something you should think about. (basically, if all you use your iPod for is listening to music, leave the default software on it)

The goal is to have better battery life than the original firmware. On other players we have accomplished this.
Seems the iPod is the only player with this issue, and they're working on it.

I was thinking about putting this on my iPod video (30 Gb), until I saw smartalco's post. Looks nice too.
