okay so listen up

how about we forget about everything that's happened with the dronies so far yeah i know sorry about all the time you put into it but we should cut our losses

and then: new dronies

but instead of separate nominations and elections we sort of merge them

so people just send in lists of what they liked in the various categories

important detail: the lists are ranked from 1 to 5 (or however many)

and then at the end the lists are put together and tallied up

if any clear winners emerge in the various categories that's cool

but even if not we can still release the lists themselves so people can look at what various people thought were the best things of the year

maybe you could even then open it up for final voting, taking the maps and whatnot that were selected through this process as the nominations

or you could like have people vote for the person they thought put forward the best selection of lists and then we take that person's choices and call them the 2011 dronies

but yeah i think this would be a fairly painless procedure

The problem is is that we all pretty much knew bagels would take home the gold on this one

Okay I've been discussing this with Aids and I thiiiink we're on the same page now. I'll make a formal thread or something about it soon but basically we'll redo the nominations process with the added twist that you will rank your nominations from most to least favourite/important. As a reminder I'll PM everyone who had already nominated with the details of what they nominated so that they can easily just add the rankings to them (and modify their picks as they see fit) and I'll also PM everyone who pledged. This change will mean that, even if we still get a disappointingly low turnout and end up with a bunch of entries with only one nomination each that we need to somehow sort out which goes and which stays, those singletons will have already been ranked in importance by their nominators and so the lower-ranked ones can be easily discarded and the higher-ranked ones left in. I think this will pretty much eliminate the problem we had been having and we'll be able to roll on with the process, get our nominees, and put them to the vote.
