Caption Contest now updates Saturdays. That should work with my schedule better. Update coming soon.
Comic Activity-O-Meter: (how often I'm updating my comic)
NOTE: If I just add a bunch of comics in one day, but plan on going back to normal after that, I probably won't update the status.
+ Dead: Canceled. Done. Maybe you'll get a random comic like once a year, but it's pretty much done.
- Zombie (Dead/Comatose): The comic is probably done regular updates forever, but I'll probably still add something once in a blue moon. It's still POSSIBLE, that I'll raise the status up, but not very likely. Maybe I'll have a comicplosion for like a week, then go back to being dead
+ Comatose: Complete stand-by. No (or very few) updates for some amount of time, but the comic's far from being over
- <AFK> (Comatose/Loitering): Stand-by, but you might possibly count on a few updates once and a while. Again, this is temporary
+ Loitering: Like comatose, but for short amount of times.
- Turtling (Loitering/Semi-Active): Really slooooww updates
+ Semi-Active: One every 2 weeks...ish?
- Quasi-Active (Semi-Active/Active): Averaging about 2 comics every 3 weeks
+ Active: Loosely defined status, but about a weekly update
- Over-Active (Active/Power-leveling): About 2 comics a week
+ Power-leveling: About 3 comics a week. Possible a schedule, possibly not
- Über-Epic (Power-leveling/COMICPLOSION!!): In some cases, this may actually be mean updates more frequently than COMICPLOSION!!, but I'm defining this level as a non-organized comic rush, kind of like a few days after my comic started
+ COMICPLOSION!!: Daily updates for a minimum of 5 days (since the daily updates started. It remains at this status until the 5, 7, whatever days are done)

No, I was just moving really really fast. It's time dilation!
In fact, I was going so fast, I went FASTER than the speed of light. I still had the proper time of course, but everything else relative to me has complex time! As I attempted to fathom the meaning of unreal time, the universe imploded, but by some bizarre miracle of physics (I guess that's a contradiction) I escaped to a parallel universe, and eventually made my way back here, all in the timeframe of only a month!! So, how was your weekend?
Haha, anyways.. (all my stories are differentiable. That's why I always go off on tangents. But sometimes I forget my constant of C, so when I take the integral to get back on track, I actually get a different function and start talking about something else! Wait... have I used that joke already?)
Go figure, the forum dies as I'm about to update, pushing me back yet another day! But here it, THE UPDATE: (Comming soon [again]. Updating as we speak.. ok as I type... ok as you read. As I type, I'm typing, not updating, so I'll shut up now and start updating)
NOTE: This season will end whenever I'm finished with it. At which, points whoever has the most wins this season, wins, and I make the sig tag collection based on that (I don't know what size to make it since I don't know how many wins that will be)

This week's video-game theme: Halo 3
/*
Exüberance's mini-review:
Why do I like this game? See my comment below for multiplayer! Aside from that, there's one thing they have in Halo 3 that I really like: the replay theatre. It records everything that happens in 3D, and you can zoom around with your camera and record pictures and video from different angles. There is one thing about it however that's really really stupid: You can't jump to different sections of the recording and the fastest you can play at is 2x speed, so if you want to watch something funny, amazing, and/or peculiar at the very end of a 40-minute game. You have to wait just under 20-mins to see it!
*/
My rating: (1-5... 0 or 6 in epic cases)
Solo Gameplay: 4.5 //good mechanics, varying difficulties. Good AI
Graphics: 4.5 //pretty good graphics. I like how you can actually see your feet in first-person and what you see corresponds with what others see
Story: 4.5 //As far as FPSs go, it's got a good storyline and it doesn't mess with the fast-paced action. (Originally had a great typo here: pace-paced action)
Multiplayer: 6 //[not co-op, but local vs.]Other ratings include 8/5, +Infinity/5, and k+1/5 where k is the biggest number you know how to say. Seriously, when me and my friends get together and play this, it's impossible not to have a great time. Lot's of LOL's! You can customize every aspect of the game type [we made one where everyone has gravity hammers, can't pick up any weapons or vehicles, and everyone moves at 300% speed. It gets boring after a while, but it's pretty funny] and you can download new maps [Rat's Nest, ftw!]. The new weapons are a great addition (I'm a really good shot with the Spartan laser no matter if you're walking, running, or driving. I'm not so great with the sniper rifle though)
Replay Value: 3.5 for solo, 6 for multiplayer //the skull system kind of helps with replay value I guess, but I never use them
Overall: 5 //five out of five just for the multiplayer. Of course, it's not as good when you're not playing with your friends, but it's still pretty good then

She get's it right the first time, but then contradicts herself later.
First she says, "...you will see how momentum is conserved, or rather how it is not". EDIT: \/\/ Nevermind, then. But then she later says, "Momentum, a product of mass and velocity is conserved between portals. In layman's terms: speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out" which is not correct. The MAGNITUDE of momentum is conserved, but momentum is a vector quantity, and portals can change your direction. Speed IS conserved, and momentum IS a product of mass and velocity, but velocity is a vector quantity and is not conserved between portals unless they are on planes that share the same normal vector.
Nothing, you can't cross a vector with a scalar.

Actually, she says "...how a portal affects forward momentum, or to be more precise, how it does not." Unless you want to define "forward momentum" as the magnitude of the momentum, this one is incorrect.Exüberance wrote:First she says, "...you will see how momentum is conserved, or rather how it is not".
Actually, the second part of that one is perfectly accurate.Exüberance wrote:But then she later says, "Momentum, a product of mass and velocity is conserved between portals. In layman's terms: speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out" which is not correct.

Now... what happens if you put a portal on a thin, movable object, then slowly (to prevent the portal from popping) move that portal into the other portal.... THIS SOUNDS LIKE A JOB FOR SCIENCE!
But, yeah what if the momentum of the system is actually conserved, just not if you only look at the thing moving through the portal as the entire system?
Either way, portals break simple physics. If you can move portals, then you can create what seems to be an illogical event (maybe not, but I sure don't see how it would work). If you can't move portals, they should not exist for an observable amount of time before they collapse. Actually, they probably shouldn't exist at all.

This week's video-game theme: Portal
/*
Exüberance's mini-review:
This game instantly became an instant hit for a reason. Actually, multiple reasons. So to explain why I like this game so much, I will list these reasons:
- It's a new, well-done concept. It introduces a whole new type of gameplay unlike anything ever done before in 3D.
- Playtesting. Playtesting. Playtesting. This game actually has it. I've played so many games with obvious glitches that anyone could easily find, but for some reason, still exist. Go through the developer's commentary. They actually deal with the problem of the players not looking up, and they actually respond to how playtesters learned to make the difficulty curve. This was a triumph. And I'm making a note here: HUGE success. It's hard to overstate my satisfaction! I'll stop quoting very applicable and true quotes from GLaDOS now, which brings me to my next point:
- Memorable Moments. It's hard to not enjoy a game narrated by a sarcastic robot that says things like "Please place the Apearture Science Weighted Storage Cube on the Aperature Science Heavy-Duty Supercolliding Superbutton" or "...as prolonged exposure to the button is not part of this test" or "exposure to the high-energy pallet has and will cause permanent damage, such as vapourization", or (last one), "I have your brain scanned and backed up, so killing me is the last thing you want to do. Don't believe me? [Mocking voice] Hello?[/voice] That's you, THAT'S HOW DUMB YOU SOUND" and many more.
- Ending... song... is win...
- It's simplistic, but it looks good. It's not at all distracting, which is perfect for it's gameplay style. (This is also made fun of in-game)
- Story? Well, there's not that much story in game, aside from some interesting things GLaDOS says in the final fight that relate to the Combine invasion of Half-Life. (ex "I have an infinite capacity for knowledge, and even I don't know what's going on out there", or even more interestingly, "I'm the only thing standing between us... and them". If you've played Half-Life 2, Episode 3, you'll notice the reference to Portal at the start (or was it the end) of the last level. Also, http://qntm.org/?hl
- There's probably something else I'm forgetting, but this about sums it up: Win on all fronts.
/*
My rating: (1-5... 0 or 6 in epic cases)
Solo Gameplay: 5 //INNOVATION!!
Graphics: 5 //You don't need any fancy graphics card for this, but I'm giving it 5/5. Why? SOMETHING THAT REQUIRES YOUR GRAPHICS CARD TO EXPLODE DOES NOT MAKE A GOOD GAME. THANK YOU FOR REALIZING THIS, VALVE.
Story: undecided //A lot of the story of Portal isn't actually in-game, so I'm not going to rate it
Multiplayer: Not Applicable //Either it doesn't exist, or I divided by zero. Yes, I tried L'Hopital's rule. Didn't work, so I'm guessing it doesn't exist.
Replay Value: 3.5 //Well, the advanced maps are good. You can go through again for developer's commentary, or just for GLaDOS's quotes, but the challenges are impossible. How the heck are you supposed to even get close to bronze in the time trial for the turret level? Also, the least steps goal IS STUPID
Overall: 6 //one of my top 7 games of all time. Too bad it's more of a 1,2, or 3 time-through and your done game. And it's so short! *sigh* All the good things are over so fast (Unless I'm forgetting something epic, my top 7 would be (not in any particular order): Portal, Halo 3, Half Life 2, Assassin's Creed, World of Warcraft, Super Smash Bros, Rock Band)

From now on, I'll update at the end of the week if either there's 3 obvious winners or there's at least 6 submitters (not submissions, but contestants). Otherwise it will update the next week no matter what.
In other news, next week will be the second last game-related image. Then it's back to normal.

This week's video-game theme: Half Life 2 (episode "0",1, and 2)
/*
Exüberance's mini-review:
What makes a good game? Good graphics? Intriguing storyline? Intelligent enemies? Uniqueness? Realism? Or is it just a game that's fun to play? Half-Life 2 certainly has good graphics, and there's a lot of story outside the game. The live action videos instead of cutscenes make the game somewhat unique as does the 'silent hero' style. It's got a great physics engine that works brilliantly with the game (though momentum isn't exactly conserved when you use the magnum). It's series of puzzles also set the game apart from other FPSs. It's also got the gravity gun and brief discussions on quantum physics. Enough said. Although it may not have the best gameplay of all the FPSs out there, it's definitely worth a try!
/*
My rating: (1-5... 0 or 6 in epic cases)
Solo Gameplay: 4 //It can get a little monotonous at times, and some puzzles are annoying, but overall it's a great game, and the gameplay changes enough so it doesn't get boring too fast
Graphics: 5 //There's a "cheat" you can type into the console on the PC version that will cause the graphics to be so sharp and clear that your graphics card will explode, burning with the intensity of a thousand suns. For everyone with a normal graphics card, you can also enjoy the game
Story: 4.5 //So, it's mostly you running along on a path, but there's still some neat events in both HL2 and the 2 episodes that follow it
Multiplayer: Not Applicable //There exists something called Half Life Battlegrounds (I think that's what it's called anyways), but I've never played it
Replay Value: 3 //It's not that great, but you may still enjoy it a second time through on a harder difficulty, or mess around with the gravity gun and zombies :D
Overall: 4.5 //this game makes it into my favorite games list, though it's probably number 6 or 7. I'll definitely be getting HL2 Episode 3 when it comes out.

Exuberance now has another contest, which is updated realtime more frequently! It's a puzzle to uncover the identity of my secret N-related project (it's not another level editor or comic) Letters are filled in to a hang-man type puzzle every time someone solves a riddle. At that time, a new riddle is posted, which will place another letter if solved in time! There's sig tags to be won for solving riddles and for solving the whole thing! What are you waiting for, head on over!

Last week I was out of the house a lot on the weekent, forgot about this Monday and Tuesday, then Wednessday decieded to just updated next week. Guess what happened that week? My computer died on me (any Microsoft program would crash upon pressing any key or the mouse. Any non-Microsoft program would run fine for 30 seconds to 90 seconds, then would spontaneoulsy crash. Had to redo my whole computer. Luckily it worked fine in Safe Mode so I could back up everything... except I forgot to write down my links in Firefox, and noiw there's a space for 2 or 3 links that I can't remember and it's really bugging me. :D All is fine now, though. (I hope)

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to mention, that I'm working in Blizzard Time. ("no more than 4 hours" == "a probability distribution, for which the probability of being finished at that time starts at 0% for 4 hours, increases to it's maximum at around 5 hours, and then approaches 0% from there.")

This week's video-game theme: Super Smash Bros Brawl (SSB Melee works too, but I'm reviewing Brawl)
/*
Exüberance's mini-review:
Maybe I should just copy-paste my Halo review for this. Multiplayer makes the game. Like Halo was the game that sold the Xbox, Smash Bros Melee was the game that sold the Gamecube, and now it's back bigger and better on the Wii. It doesn't have a replay mode like Halo, but Brawl allows you to pause and take funny pictures in game. (Melee does to, but you needed to be in camera mode for that, which was kind of dumb) I'd say the characters are pretty well balanced, and the fact that many people each have their own different best characters proves it... sort of. (My best character is still Marth). The new Final Smash in Brawl is interesting. It adds a bit to the game, though these powers aren't really balanced at all, with some being much weaker or stronger than others. If you don't like them, you can turn it off: that simple. The great thing about items is that if you don't like it, you can take it out. If you think it's a great idea, turn it on. The levels are good (though I absolutely hate how it's hard to recover on Final Destination now (in Melee, doing a swift attack up would slide you to the edge to recover. Now you won't make it unless you position yourself right) and you can even make your own in Brawl (though the built-in ones look much nicer). I played through the story mode, and it was OK. I liked the bosses. I don't believe any character actually says any words in the whole thing (or did Snake say something at one point? I seem to remember that happening once... maybe not). I like how you can unlock all characters in it (all but a few the first time, then once you've completed it you can find the other characters behind new doors in old levels). The level creation is also pretty awesome, though it's restrictions and inability to sync moving platforms is stupid. Can still make some awesome levels though.
/*
My rating: (1-5... 0 or 6 in epic cases)
Solo Gameplay: 4 //It's fun playing against the computer for a while, but it got old for me pretty quick just going against the computer. Then again, I played Melee for a long time on Gamecube, so that's probably part of it. I wish they added a level 10 difficulty. Oh well. (Is it just me or do CPs shield a LOT more than in melee?)
Graphics: 5 //The graphics are perfect for the game style. Well done!
Story: 2 //well, the story mode was somewhat interesting, and it was kind of unique. It's really more of a multiplayer game though
Multiplayer: 5 //It was made for multiplayer, and it excells at it
Replay Value: 6 //the whole game in Smash Bros Melee is replay value, really. Same for Brawl
Overall: 5 //Smash Bros Melee is still my favourite GC game. Brawl is definitely a great improvement.

The program on the left is NReality, while the program on the right is N v1.4, and the ninja on the left has beaten most of the game, while the ninja on the right is probably on his first run through 00-0. At least, that's my interpretation.

Edit: this is my 144th post. 144 is a pretty nifty number...

Soon as in later. Probably post-December. However, aperture and I are in contact, so rest assured we are at least thinking about it.

EDIT: I think this contest may be dead now. I think what I'll do is shut it down for a month or two, then start it up again later, and see if anyone is still interested. Not sure what I'll do about this "week". It's a good image, but there's only 3 entrants.
