Text-based chat guts any given statement of the emotion or tone it might have been said with, and no amount of emoticons can fix that (although you've gotta give Keron credit for trying). There was a scientific article I was reading from an extremely reputable source (might've been Cracked) that reported a sort of induced Aspergers when people communicate in a way that eliminates the tone of the voice and the physical presence of the other party. Throw in an audience, and people become douchebags.
When you meet someone online through text chat, they're necessarily a stranger, and your communication with him is necessarily alienating. You'd have to be around someone for a considerable amount of time before you start picking up on when they're joking, angry, sarcastic, or insulted, and even then it becomes tricky. And when you know someone so little, how naive do you have to be to contact them outside of text chat? What lapse in sanity would cause you to invite that person to chat on Skype?
I don't know what backwater country you're from, but at least every American on the internet is a rapist. By law, you need to be convicted of or be "such [person] as is physically capable and emotionally unstable as to be likely to" rape in order to get a subscription with an ISP. And the US is responsible for 70% of all online traffic. Given that it's often difficult to do a background check on an effectively anonymous username, you're most likely ingratiating yourself among rapists. If you're okay with that, then fine, go ahead and try making some "friends" and actually discussing their "feelings" at you online "hair-braiding parties." But I'll be over in this corner right here, without all the rape.
