I don't quite understand this point. I know where you're coming from in that Metanet is doing new things, but I still don't understand why a reference to the original game is frowned upon.heatwave wrote:Once again, the domain should not be specific to N

Because .org is ugly, and therealn is not a great domain name.Inspired wrote:Why can we not just buy "therealn.org"?

My thinking is that this domain is less for us to go, "Oh, man, we love the fuck out of the N game." and more so that new users will find it and easily be able to associate that name with the games that we principally encompass. If we have a domain that is N-specific, I could see Robotology coming out and spawning an entirely separate community, which would be awful.Spawn of Yanni wrote:I don't quite understand this point. That is a fair point (although I imagine M&R would link to our domain in the game itself, but your point still stands I suppose). I'd argue that ninetyseconds is obscure enough, though, to not create a too N-centric situation or anything but I feel eh about the org.SlappyMcGee wrote:My thinking is that this domain is less for us to go, "Oh, man, we love the fuck out of the N game." and more so that new users will find it and easily be able to associate that name with the games that we principally encompass. The phrase changes on every reload, and I think the idea is that we don't want to be specific to any single game.Pikman wrote:Well, being less N-specific then.
Robotology's site has the Latin phrase "Mater artium necessitas." trans. "Necessity is the mother of invention."

Just because the phrase appeared on Robotology's page doesn't mean, at least to me, that its specific to Robotology. I read it as a melding of "metanet inventions".Spawn of Yanni wrote:The phrase changes on every reload, and I think the idea is that we don't want to be specific to any single game.Pikman wrote:Well, being less N-specific then.

"The mother of invention is necessity," technically. Sorry.Spawn of Yanni wrote:Robotology's site has the Latin phrase "Mater artium necessitas." trans. "Necessity is the mother of invention."

Also, while Metanet is appropriate, just slapping "Meta" on a domain doesn't do enough. What about http://www.metaporn.com ?

Real pity that we lost TheRealN, because I liked that name. If someone else cared to pay hosting I'd happily allow use of my site... otherwise probably not.
Other domains... I second meta.net - that would be cool. Otherwise I don't really have any ideas.

Though n.forum.com could work.
We could go with, like, organized names, you know? Like, metanet.forum.com for the forum, or something. I dunno.
