Hello Ma'am. It seems that you're not the only one who makes tilesets around here. Many people do. If you really like making tilesets, I'd recommend making a new thread when where other members can request something on a tileset (but make sure it's not their name as that's been done already). Doing this will introduce you to the community and give you something to do. Have fun!

In all seriousness, it's really easy to get involved. Get on IRC, start chatting with the dudes on Vent, or PM me - I've still got shitloads of ideas for community stuff. After all, It's Your Legacy.

Seeing as you're around on the IRC sometimes, which is great, my only other advice would probably be to jump into things. Volunteer to help out for a contest or two, maybe run your own, help out with news or whatever... or just hang around and talk to other people.
You may feel excluded, but simply by being here you're not.

...Yeah.

I had a similar problem up to last year, and I kind of still do, but I'm less weary of the situation and don't worry about it as much when I began to focus on what I had already accomplished in contrast to what I wasn't doing. I annoyed the entire community to the point of making fun of me, which made me realize complaining about it didn't get me anywhere. In fact, I'm going to reinstall Chatzilla and get the new IRC info. I haven't been there in months, yo.

In regard to map making, I started making tilesets a while back. I had no motive, I just started making them. I believe that simply looking at maps and tilesets makes you better at making them, as well as with practise.

In regard to the forums, find something you like. I never really fit in on the forums much, until I found my new love of imaging. I started doing stuff in the image forum, and then spread out into the rest of the community, including IRC and Vent.

Wait, that article by this Matt dude can't be right. I thought the slogan 'It's your Legacy' applied to how 'it's your <project> Legacy <hijacked>.

People who try too hard to get noticed dont really give off the best impressions. Just give it time. Hang around on vent and IRC, make maps and just go with the flow.

Good advice. If I'd run around starting contests and mappacks and advertising my maps willy-nilly, basically screaming, "Hey, I matter! Look at what I do! Love me, hold me! Integrate me!" I doubt I'd be where I am today.

Just stay with the community for a while, and let the time do the work. I mean, I never did anything remarkable on here, yet now I'm recognised by tons of people here. Not necessarily as a great guy, but hey, recognised!

I'd also say that being outwardly self-centered is definitely not the way to go. Ever heard of Evil_Sire? Yeah...

It takes a while to get noticed on here. It's quite rare for a newbie to join and get instant acclaim.

i remember that pm you sent me a while back. if you'd be willing to start up a career on numa, that'd be a great way to become involved there, but the forum community goes way beyond mapping, and even includes a fairly different set of mappers. just talk with people. post on the forums, get on irc, show your personality to everyone.

I find this really funny.. I don't play N that much, and I haven't really done much involving N to actually become known around here. Just be yourself and get to know everyone. That's the best way to get involved.

Get on IRC more. I average maybe two posts a day. Yet somehow I have become mod of Discussion, probably because I am on IRC a lot.
