wtf have I been doing?

Wanker!
Obviously your peers did not think so.
If any peers personally do not believe that I am doing my best for the community, I would ask them to stop visiting this domain, stop reading my dry wit in each post (and there are plenty!), stop using Vent (Well, okay, that one's easy), quit Administrong and not benefit from either of the secret projects I have in the pipeline.

Also, they're banned. :)

Dronies are clearly broken.
Totally. I think I voted for you in 4 or 5 categories. I was surprised.

Wasn't Southpaw that guy who shamelessly advertised one of Pheidi's maps on NUMA's homepage, getting him quite a lot of bias votes? Yeah, he totally deserved it.
This year's Dronies was terrible, I've seen so many better maps this year than most of the nominations. Seems like this year was more of a popularity contest than anything.

We hear your complaints and are currently working on something to rectify the situation.

But stop bitching about everything, AMLT.

Your bitterness is heartwarming.
It was not I who advertised Pheidippides' map on the front page, AMLT. I have said this multiple times. That period of NUMA was odd. We had admins and Reviewers being removed from the roster and things were going awkward for a while.
Not to say I don't think Pheidi deserved the recognition. It just wasn't me who posted that.

Regardless, the Dronies have always been a popularity contest. I don't see how they couldn't be. The maps which you played that you thought were better were obviously not the maps that the rest of the community played which they thought were better. It's a majority-rules deal and you're not the majority. Oh well.

The first Dronies competition wasn't all that much of a popularity contest from what I remember.
New authors stand little chance of getting a Dronie, regardless of how good their maps are.

The newest mapper in the category won Mapmaker of the Year, and other '07ers and '08ers also took home Dronies. Also, the community was a /lot/ smaller for the first few Dronies - kinda hard to turn 50 votes (if that many) into a popularity contest. Our size also prevents newer mappers from standing out as quickly, because it takes a while to build a reputation these days. The days of a Methodic showing up and blowing everyone away are long gone. But as you can see, those with the talent and perseverance will get their time to shine.

Well, you put out a cool EP that I bought and nobody else did.

Actually, no, wait, that is another reason why I should have won it.

I feel rather strange winning the same award in the same category for a program relying on another programs success.
