The Metanet Pronunciation Guide

by Scrivener
Anybody think their name might be hard to pronounce? Post here. I realized the other day that I have been completely butchering several community member's names, and I think others might be too. For instance, Pheidippides = fay dip' pud dees? I've always said it fay di pides'
Discuss.

I'm pretty sure it is "fee-dip-pids", but you pronounce those last two parts really fast and close together Fee-dippids.And if it is not I'll be sorely disappointed.

Or possibly "Fee-i-dip-pid-eeze," though I'm not sure why anyone would pronounce it that way O-o.

From dictionary.com: "fahy-dip-i-deez," although I tend to pronounce it "feh-dip-i-deez." Pheidi becomes "feh-di" or, as some like to put it, "fee-di."

Also, there are far more ambiguous pronunciation problems in this community than my poor username. How do you say "5aved," for example? I've heard "faved," "fai-aved/five-aved" (this is how I say it), and even "saved," and then there's whether you pronounce "0th" as "zero-ith" (my choice) or "zeroth." The list goes on, and we've seen several threads and as many opinions about all of them.

I say pheidippides as "fye-dee-pih-pie-deez", (rapid double p sound) 5aved as "five-aved" and 0th as "zeroth"

I don't think that my name is particularly difficult to pronounce. I say "Meta" like you would say "beta" (ie, with a soft long "a" sound), but I know many people prounce it with a short "e" sound like in "jet". Ing is just like the suffix. vankusss and xaelar are two usernames that I probably tend to say incorrectly: I say vainkoos and zaylur, even though I think the correct pronunciations are more like "vahnkoosh" and "zeelar".

I guess TheRealOne's username could count too. Due to its lack of capitalization on NUMA, it can be mistaken for "there alone" instead of "the real one"

Calcy = Cal-kee, not Cal-see (CalcGenius)

Or I believe so.

I always pronounce xaelar zay-lar and vankusss van-cuss though, Meta (whose name I pronounce Met-uh, not Mayt-uh).

Not my name, but I'd like to draw attention to Eiturlyf's name being pronounced similar to "Eye-tuchrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-lyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyf".

xaelar = zy-ler
vankusss = "vank" as you would say "tank", then "us".
pheidippides = fee-dip-eh-dis or fee-dee
meta = met-uh
"zero-ith"

Seems like those are all incorrect <_<

I say 5aved (or 4aved, etc) as just "faved." I also say "zeroth." And until I read this post, I always pronounced your name "fi-di-pyeds" >.>

Same with all three.

This is the thread I was BORN for.
"in-kloo-yay". Not "inclooee" or any of that garbage. In clue yay. Say it slowly now.

Also, Pheidi, I always pronounced it Fie dip pid dees. I guess I was wrong about that. ^_^

._. Pheidippides was a (probably) real person, and his name was pronounced "feh-dip-i-dees." xaelar is "xay-la," (xela) or "xeye-lar," I guess. For Eiturlyf I always went with "Eh-tur-liff." incluye is obvious. Zeroth is correct, at least according to Asimov. Meta? How hard is that? It's a real word. So, "meh-ta-ing." And van, "van-koos." Calcy sounds better with an 's' sound.
