What have we done for you?

What has this community done for you? It can be anything, really. From a different outlook on life, to the simple stuff, from clothes to music to whatever.

On a pretty deep level, this community has indirectly stopped me from committing suicide. I'd thought about it a lot for a while, but going on IRC and just hanging here, you guys made me think about the consequences of that sort of thing, and blah blah.

On a lighter note, you guys have expanded my tastes in... Everything. Music, movies, literature, everything. My horizons have been broadened immensely, and I thank you for that. It's helped me to be more open minded in life, and that's always useful.

You guys have helped me with music, helped me with imaging and art projects, taught me many things from ortsz's trivia to technological advances and computer things, gave me experience in helping people choosing various items to purchase, and a lot other things I can't think of right now. Thanks Metanet!

Definitely influenced the development of my music taste, drastically improved my attitude towards punctuation and language use, provided me with a great amount of entertainment over the years, and almost certainly reduced my chances of ever having a successful career. Thanks Metanet!

I would not have gotten an A+ in creative writing this year if it wasn't for these forums. Thanks, Metanet! :D

No one has gotten more from this community than me - My *entire life* has been based upon Metanet - my stature, my demeanor, most of my beliefs, my taste in music and movies, my concepts about popular culture, my debate skills and my writing has been honed tenfold whilst here, my best friends, my (adopted) sister, my roommate, my entire love life, my job, my friends and colleagues... during my darkest times, I've gotten both emotional and financial support, I mean... my life is Metanet incarnate. I'm so thankful to have found this place, it has been my saving grace in all ways. I cannot fathom giving back to you guys in the way that you've all given to me... my life has been impacted more here than in any other singular aspect of my life. I love you guys.

Edit: Oh, oh! And I got a nifty little N pop-up book. LV is fucking amazing.

It's back in Denver, in storage, but oh my God, it's one of my most cherished possessions.

I think LV also sent BigBlargh a dollar bill and defaced it a while ago. LV and Blizz both have many a time been there as great friends if I ever had a problem no matter how big or small over the last 6 years. <3

Well, for starters, you guys have helped me enjoy N more than any other game I've ever played. On a more meaningful level, you guys have always been a great group to chill out with. Part of it is probably the anonymity provided by a Greek moniker and a Japanese avatar, but I think part of it is definitely the people too. You never feel judged here, which is why I've shown so much of my soft side over the years. You guys have seen stuff from me that I could only comfortably show to my closest friends.

This community has done a lot. Believe it or not, I'm one of the smartest kids in my school. Metanet has made me humble in that I'm really not /as/ smart as I appear to be when associated with my peers. This place is full of elitist dicks, yes, but /smart/ elitist dicks. Without Metanet I'd probably be some arrogant prick with no care to punctuation.

I frequently fall into this crazy apprehension that I know jack shit about anything. Talking stuff out at (considerable) length really helps me take a second critical look at what I believe I know. This has helped me identify the beliefs and opinions of mine that don't hold water, consider others' from a new perspective, and thereby continuously refine my belief system for the better.
Every now and again, I go through the forumer archives and read my old posts, and I'm often embarrassed by them. I know it must seem to many of you that I'm inflexible in my views, but I think I've grown considerably in my years spent here (or at the very least changed).

Oh, and when I took the SAT's in high school, I got the maximum possible score in Writing. That would never have come close to happening if I hadn't done so much of it for you guys.

Thanks, dudes, for reading my long rants and then disagreeing so persistently.

One of the things I remember that was consistently said in the debate sections of these forums was that - specifically in the religion threads - is that people would oft start/end their posts with something along the lines of, "Hey, I respect your opinion (LOL) and at the end of the day neither of us are going to have had changed our beliefs about God and religion and blah blah." They were wrong. Metanet has single-handedly changed my views on religion. This forum and the people residing in it are the only ones I have ever met that challenged me to ask myself why I believed what I did. And now I find myself reading articles like, "Is Satan really that bad of a guy?" - something I wouldn't have even considered looking at a year ago, which seems silly but I know I would have felt seriously guilty reading something like that. Now I'm not freaked out about different opinions or just the general idea that I might actually be wrong about something.

Thanks Metanet. Almost five years and counting.

Exactly the same for me. I directly have Suki and scythe to thank for my vastly more open-minded view on religion, as well as my move from Christian to theist agnostic.

Also, my taste in music has expanded considerably thanks to Metanet.

This place rocks.

I don't think my life would have gone half as well as it did if I hadn't found this place; you guys taught me everything I know about acting, y'know, responsibly. I owe Blizz in particular for telling me all the various times when I was being a jackass.
I think I can trace three-quarters of my music library to this forum. And it's a big library.

Though I'm glad I haven't lost my ability to inspire contempt in people without doing or saying a single thing.

Wow, a lot. I'm not that active anymore here, but I was a total snotty prick for most of the time here and just went off ranting at people. Maybe that was partly my age, but I actually started realizing no one's going to like someone who acts like that. Just that realization in itself, along with becoming more open to other people's views, really helped me change how I act in real life and to be less snobby and more tolerant. Those things are probably some of the main reasons I have a lot of friends now, which betters my quality of life immensely. I know most people here didn't totally get to see it because around the same time I was able to reflect, I started becoming a much less involved member of the community, but that was a huge change in my behavior and personality that came from this community.

And then like, everyone else, my musical taste's way different. I went from pretentiously snobby, listening to only classical and looking down on everyone who didn't, to listening to mostly contemporary alt/indie/post rock music. At one point in time, practically everything I listened to came from recommendations on IRC and the forum, but since I don't frequent much here anymore I've learned to figure it out myself. I read music blogs, reviews, and actually have a decent (or at least better) sense of what makes music good. Also, the shift in musical taste has me playing guitar now and in a band-ish group with friends which is loads of fun.

So yeah, thanks to everyone who called me on being a prick and ended up changing me for the better.

Mostly just provided stability, I think. In all the ways that really matter, Metanet stays the same to me.

All my gaming buddies are vitriolic brothers-in-arms and it's more fun this way.

I've also learned my ass can be kicked no matter how good I am at anything.
