Three years ago, someone was posting on this forum every other minute. In every single subforum. There were at least five members online at every moment, usually around ten.

Now, the activity on here and NUMA is but a mere fraction of our golden days.

WTF?

Why?!?!?! is metanet dying

To give a serious answer, you missed the worst bit. There was this thing where numa would go down for 15 hours every day in November through March. Starved to death from map withdrawal, the community morphed into a bunch of undead zombies who would occasionally awaken to post at an average rate of about ten maps and thirty posts a week. Arachnid fixed it in April and several people have risen from the dead since then; we're certainly a lot more active now. There's still hope. This also explains why dronies are happening in the middle of the year.

I was unaware of this condition. Still, metanet should be more alive than it is now.

It's rather hard for a group of people such as ourselves to stay together simply to talk about random subjects. All communities have a member turnover, with new ones coming and old ones leaving. The problem is that we just haven't had an huge influxes of new members. This is pretty much entirely because of N being played less and less, and Metanet not coming out with any new games.

I disagree. We don't talk about random subjects. We bond because of N. And N doesn't get old until you have played all the mappacks, all the maps on NUMA, and beat the game a couple of times.
I'm sure there is no one in existence who has done that.

...That's completely and utterly wrong. If you'd care to actually take a look at the community, you'd notice that the majority of active members do not play N any more. As Kablizzy said in one of the podcasts (this is some years ago now, so I'm guessing even less people play it now), we originally came here to talk about N, but the community has evolved way beyond that. You only need to look at all the image editors, musicians, techies, and other people talking and collaborating on a broad range of subjects. I mean, honestly, how often does #n actually talk about N?

Every time I have ever tried to go in that channel some sort of bot has been making obnoxiously-colored lines. Or maybe that was n-mapping.

Last year we barely managed a few 20 maps a day. It's quite the opposite nowadays.

As for the forums yea they're dead pretty much.
