2011 DRONIES
OUGHTS STYLE
It's not over till it's over.
Here's the old thread which contains the blurb about the Dronies and also the bit with a lot of people pledging to vote, most of whom did not contribute to the nominations process, thus making things really tricky because with too few overlapping nominations, we couldn't get a clear shortlist of favourites. I discussed the issue with Aids and made a proposal which he seemed to be okay with and so we're re-doing the nominations process, with a slight change: now, you'll be asked to also rank your nominations in each category from most important to least important. Very easy (yeah, yeah, they're both really good, you can't make up your mind--no, just shut your filthy mouth and flip a coin; afterall, you'll have to pick a single winner in the final voting anyway) and it will mean that even if we still get a disappointingly low turnout and end up with a bunch of entries with only one nomination each that we need to somehow sort out which goes and which stays, those singletons will have already been ranked in importance by their nominators and so the lower-ranked ones can be easily discarded and the higher-ranked ones left in.
So! I am sending PMs to everyone who has already nominated with all the details including the list of their earlier nominations, so all they need to do is number them (but feel free to change them if you wish), and I'll also remind pledgers at some point. For all other people, please send me your nominations via a forum message.
The categories that we are nominating for are the following, noting that the year in question is last year:
Maps
Action map of the year
Race map of the year
Puzzle map of the year
DDA of the year
N-art of the year
Tileset of the year
NReality map of the year
Most innovative use of objects or tiles (concept of the year)
Review of the year
Map pack of the year
People
The N community recognition award (member of the year)
Player of the year
Author of the year
New mapper of the year
&
Run of the year
You can submit nominations for as many or as few categories as you wish, and you can also nominate a single map or person in multiple categories if you feel they deserve it. As mentioned, the key change here is that we are ranking the nominations. This means that in each category, you need to number your nominations, from 1 for the most important (your favourite) to the highest number (e.g. 5) for the least important. You can pretty much submit as many or as few nominations as you like, but it's probably a waste of your and my time if you do more than five per category. The rankings are per category, so make sure each category has a #1--don't rank all the nominations as one group.
Again, if you've previously nominated, check your inbox. There should be a message from me containing another recap of the process and a list of your previous nominations. Hopefully that abbreviated list is clear enough; the numbers correspond to the URL of the map, e.g. 212864 is http://www.nmaps.net/212864 (let that not be construed as a suggestion to nominate that one, though you totally should). If you're still happy with your nominations, all you need to do is number them as discussed above and send them back to me. Piece of cake.
So yeah. Thanks in advance for participating! Note that if you don't participate after I've already thanked you, you kind of look like a dick, so make sure you send in some nominations. You can make as many or as few nominations in as many or as few categories as you wish--every little bit is valuable.

Technical details of the ranking system: for tallying them up, I'm liking the look of 1/(ranking+1), which works out--multiplied by twenty for ease of interpretation--to 10 points for first preference, 6.7 for second, 5 for third, 4 for fourth, 3.3 for fifth, etc.
