THE WHEEL OF FATE IS TURNING
TREMBLE AND DESPAIR MERE MORTALS, FOR I AM URR'GNASH THE UNHOLY DEMON OF COMPLICATED AND BADLY MANAGED CONTESTS

Alright, rad N mappers, it's time i put your rad N skills to the test...again. You ready for this shit? It's...

MAPDRAFT TWO!

We had a lot of fun last time i was hosting this and i want to Do It Again

True to my word this will be a better kept contest and hopefully more fun i also added an enmey he said since the las tone too easy. I spent a lot of time tightening up the graphics on level three and i think we are set.

these are spoilers they don't show up in retrowhatever
What Do I Do?

The point of this contest is really very simple. There will be a pool of 'Packs', that will contain instructions on how you create your maps for this contest.

Each round, each player will receive Four (4) different RANDOMLY SELECTED Packs to make their map with. You MUST make your map with EXACTLY what the packs dictate, or else i will hand you your ass be very upset, and judge you down for it.

Packs can contain anything and everything, like Objects, Tiles, and even special rules that you must follow when you are making your maps.

Here are several examples of Packs, just so you know what to expect (although you probably are expecting these. Or are you? the mysteries continue):

------------------------------

Good Health
Tiles
15 ‘Five’ Tiles
5 ‘Four’ Tiles
Up to 20 ‘E’ Tiles

------------------------------

Cache-22
Items
22 Gold
22 Mines
22 Bounce Blocks
------------------------------

Netamet Pack 1
Booster
15 gold
1 floorguard
1 blue drone (Seeker)
1 blue drone (Normal)
1 Locked Door
1 Trap Door
1 Mine

8 'One' Tiles
20 'E' Tiles

------------------------------

Birds of Two Different Warring Tribes Who Hate Each Other...
Rule
You MUST place your gold in clumps of 4 or LESS.

------------------------------

Of course, some packs have even wackier object sets and more bizarre rules, so you must be ready for anything well i mean you can relax because no elephants are going to trample your dog but still you might want to be prepared!

There are more details about the different pack types and a comprehensive list of packs further down this wonderful curvaceous post dat ass.

How Do I Start?

Well, it's simple! Post in this thread saying you'd like to participate, and when we get enough Players we can get started!

and here's the part where we get serious:
Last time was incredibly loose as far as deadlines and restrictions go but this time i am really becoming an anal-retentive asshole more concerned about the organization of something like this so we're going to do it this way:

-Registrations will be restricted to BEFORE the round begins. Drop-Ins are not allowed. They were cool and all but i was forgetting who signed up when and i left some people out in the cold. and i don't want that to happen again because that's just absolutely fucking awful

this is important: due to the rather large (80-something) amount of people we got playing last time
I'm going to separate you all into pods of 6-10 people again for organization.

Each POD (not the band) Will:

- have 6-10 people
- be judged seperately
- there will be awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, as well as 2 bonus runner-up awards in each pod. This means 5 out of 10 will be winning something.

I will PM each of you with your four Packs that you must create your map with. After that, you will have until the deadline to create your map!
and remember,
If ANYTHING doesn't make sense to you, ask me some questions. I will answer them and then add the fruits of our discourse to the FAQ.

The Illustrious Rules

THESE RULES MAN, THESE RULES

I. The Exit, Exit Switch, and Ninja will not be in any packs. Please place them yourself.

II. If you miss a deadline, you won't be eliminated or anything, but you cannot participate in the judging, and so you'd lose your chance at some cool prizes. Don't do that.

III. The point of the contest is to see what you can do with bizarre amounts of objects and tiles. Try to use all of them! Hiding objects you don't like outside the map or in tiles will make me INSANELY ANGRY

IV. Follow The Rules

V. Don't talk about THE GAME

VI. THE UPDATES:
NO UPDATES YET DERP

Pack List

Packs are separated by type. There are Tile Packs and Item Packs, which are self explanatory. Booster Packs will contain both Tiles and Items, but never usually too many of each. Rule Packs, or just Rules, each have a unique set of instructions you must follow while making your map. Sometimes they will even grant you extra items or tiles.

Imagine each type of pack is represented by a unique deck of cards. We’ve got the Tiles deck, the Items deck, the Booster deck and the Rules deck. At the beginning of each round, the decks are shuffled and each participant is dealt exactly one card from each deck.

You will ALWAYS get exactly one of each pack type.

JUDGING AND PRIZES AND THE SCHEDULE!

Okay, so, I know what you're thinking. You want to make some Packs for this contest, right? Well, You Can!

Here's the schedule:

Tuesday through Saturday: Mapmaking and Posting. If you want your map judged, it must be submitted by midnight on Saturday.

Sunday: Feedback on maps from throughout the week is collected, Maps are judged and ranked. No new maps may be submitted.

Monday: Winners are announced, new sets of packs are sent out to everyone on the list. Winners have until Saturday to submit their pack designs, which will then be 'shuffled in' to the list for the next round.

After each deadline, I will judge each map in a pretty relaxed and laid-back fashion. The point of this contest is not to kick your ass, and it's also not to screw people so they can't have fun.

I will be judging on:

Object Usage
Gameplay
Adherence to the Packs and Rules (you should always get max points on this, for serious)
(You don't need to feedback anymore)

FAQ

The first incarnation of this unholy beast of a contest spawned a large number of infernal darkspawn intent on the ruination of mankind questions so here are a well thought out list of reasons

Q: Do I have to submit my map to NUMA?

A:
Yes. You can post your map in the thread, but you won’t be eligible for prizes or achievements at the end of the round unless it is on NUMA.

Q: Should I tag my map with anything special?

A:
You don't have to. But if you could add mapdraftX, where X is the current round, as one of your tags, it will make things ten times nicer for us, not to mention faster. However, rest assured that so long as your map has been posted in the thread, we will find it and it will be judged, regardless of tags.

Q: Is there anything else I need to know regarding submissions?

A:
Include what your packs were in your map description. This will give people a better idea of the limits you had to work around, and help them to have a firmer basis when judging your work. You can also list them in your thread post, but just be sure they are in your description as well.

Q: I don’t want this contest to affect my map count. Can I delist my submissions after posting them?

A:
Yes, but wait until the current round is over before doing so. Maps that have been delisted before the judging day (usually Sunday) won’t be judged, and then of course can’t win achievements or prizes.

Q: Has anyone really been far as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

A:
One foot's both the same. It's not like you can actually decide to be as far as even if you go it's more like you might want to do when you look.

Q: So if I win a round, I can make up my own packs that will be added to the main list?

A:
Yep. Just try and keep them reasonable. Exact number requirements over 100, purposefully contradictive Rule packs, or anything that would cause the pack recipient to break any of NUMA’s rules in order to comply are flat out. Other than that anything goes. If it’s way too ridiculous, we’ll either tone it down for you or just make our own.

Q: So could I make a Rule Pack that requires the recipient’s map title submission to be “(Username) IS THE BEST!”?

A:
Yes. Such endeavors are encouraged. Just keep in mind you might wind up with it in a later round, and then what would people think.

Q: I lack the creative energy to come up with a pack! (But not to make maps with them.) Do I have to come up with something?

A:
No. If you truly feel that being able to contribute is a pain, we will gladly make your packs for you and with you in mind. It’ll be as if you made it yourself, and no one will ever know.

Q: I want to sit out for a round or two, for whatever reason. Should I let you know beforehand?

A:
Don't bother. Just ignore your PM if you feel like a break or can't get around to it. There's always the next week. Or the week after that. At least it'll always be there.

Q: Please stop sending me packs. I am done with this contest.

A:
No problem. Just post in the main thread saying that you are totally through, and your name will be removed from the list, and you won't get sent the packs anymore. Of course you can always sign back up later if you change your mind. please change your mind i miss you already and you haven't even quit yet ;_;

Q: Can I use nReality?

NEW STUFF

[Q]: So you basically copypasted a bunch of junk from the old thread- what's actually new this time?

[A:] GOOD QUESTION VIRGINIA

the answer is not much. I was very pleased with how the contest was progressing and i want to keep it largely the same.

Two things though:

1.No drop-ins allowed. You already knew that though.

2.i am redoing all the base packs for the start of this contest. Never fear, people who have already made custom packs, i have those saved nicely on my hard drive and will add them in later, i just wanted a chance to start over clean.

If you have questions please check the FAQ, post it in this thread, or shoot me a PM.

First Place:
MAPDRAFT2Y: THE REVENGING i by numa_ninja
Nmaps.net
This map looks gorgeous (especially for a mapdraft map) complete with elegant rocket spacing and a very cool hook arrangement on the right. The gameplay is dangerous and fast with the large amounts of rockets ready to kill you, making for some cool dodging moments and not-so-cool frustrating deaths. The map itself was pretty short once you avoided being killed over and over, but still a very fun and good-looking experience. Well done.

Second Place:
lines of blue and red by script
Nmaps.net
I liked this a lot. Killer combo with the lasers and lines of thwumps in the middle section, and the two sides were more like short, intense puzzles. Nicely done.

Third Place:
Look Alive by Chocollama
Nmaps.net
This map combines tense hide-and-seek chaingun gameplay with an almost laid-back gold collecting feel. You never feel overwhelmed or out of control, but if you get too comfortable there is always a lurking chaingun ready to set you straight. Very fun.

Bonus
The View From This MAPDRAFTED Tower by toasters
Nmaps.net
toasters combines a previously-done tileset with a large, LARGE amount of one-ways here for a map that is challenging and fun. Glitching the oneways and outsmarting killer gauss turrets makes every piece of the minimal gold a valuable (and dangerous) opportunity, but sometimes awkward deaths result from the placement or timing of the gauss turrets.

Now Wait A Minute by Daikenkai

I have a love/hate relationship with this map. At times it's full of amazing leaps and awesome chaingun dodges, and at others it's full of awkward rockets and falling to your death due to a weird angle. The sides and bottom are tense and rewarding but climbing to the exit switch is more irritating than anything. I still had fun though.

Map Draft 1 by ninja143
Nmaps.net
Pretty strange map. I was skeptical of the first area with the launchpads but it was more interesting than i thought. The rest of the map's looks are deceiving and actually very enjoyable. I especially liked the launchpads in the second area - the combination of upside down and rightside up pads made it very cool.

OMFG A BOX by Sunset
Nmaps.net
Although the rule set said that your item's can't move at all i can see your reasoning as to why thwumps are okay, so you're fine this round :) I really liked the way the trap doors were utilized and the single laser was well placed. Fun.

First Place:
First Draft by Seneschal
Nmaps.net
An extremely snazzy setup that uses the entire map area with a minimum of items, this map is very, very enjoyable. Despite using the entire map area it plays very fast and there is tons of room for making faster or more efficient runs. Awesome.

Second Place:
Cut-Ups and Lampposts by Leaff
Nmaps.net
Attractive gold layouts and INTENSE DRONE COMBAT make this map fun. The dispersal of the drones makes the difficulty vary widely during gameplay and is altogether an enjoyable map. Nice!

Third Place:
Trail Ttrail with Triple Ccore by brainstone
Nmaps.net
As far as completely debilitating Rule Packs go, Gloomp's Plaster Casts of Everything does a pretty good job of making a mapper think on his toes. Fortunately brainstone here can work with completely bizarre rules and still make an enjoyable and bizarre action map. woot!

Bonus
Circular Motion by golfkid
Nmaps.net
Speaking of bizarre action maps and strange pack sets, goldkid here has created something highly enjoyable. Usually i am not a fan of these highly technical gold-collecting maps, but in this case jumping around calmly for all the gold was a lot of fun. Nice usage of your mostly enemy-less packs.

This very challenging jumper map's looks can be deceiving due to an interesting rule pack. A lot of fun and very rewarding for the difficulty. ?????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????!

I...what? what is going on in this map. I suppose i should specify that you can only put in 1 exit yourself, but this was a kinda clever interpretation, i guess. Uh. Hmm. getting to the end the intended way was kinda interesting.

Power Above by Erik-Player
Nmaps.net
This was very cool. The intimidating mines floating around everywhere was made for an amazing atmosphere and made running around in the open a terrifying prospect. My only complaint stems from the combination of bounceblocks, mines, and rockets that made jumping around sometimes cramped and frustrating. Mostly, however, this is really cool. Well done.
