Chickens don't lay three eggs in a day. They lay one every day for a number of days, then lay no eggs for one or more days. The probability of a chicken laying an egg on a given day is determined by the number of previous consecutive days on which an egg has been layed. As the number gets larger, the chance of the chicken laying an egg on the next day decreases.
