Improved my 72-0 with an innovation. Like this, it's much more difficult not to miss any gold and it's only a small improvement, but why not? ;)

I had had FDan as a contact on Youtube for a year already when N 2.0 was released, and we had messaged and so on. Then I forgot about that, but when I went back to see my inbox, his messages were now under the name "Voted Straw".

I mean its not a completely sure fact but it pretty much is. He was a hardcore underclocker so I just hope he did not underclock his runs in N v2.0 as well.

He did take a few speedrun *0ths, so he's got at least some skills that translate to realtime playing. Don't assume that he's underclocking because thats what he did the most of in NReality, I'd say there's a good chance those runs are legit (although I haven't seen them, same as any of the 2.0 runs)

Yeah I know he took a sr 0th well, took it the day after. I haven't assumed anything, I was just considering the possiblity which is the reasonable thing to do when the possiblity exists. I wasn't acussing him of cheating and actually I always considered him to be legit while I was competing against him, you can ask kk, because of the way the runs were done (they didn't seem to rely on speedlight reflexes and chimneying which is what most cheaters rely on; they were pure cleanliness). I was just considering the /possibility/ giving his NReality history, thats all (and that's if he's really him), because with that experience it wouldn't be hard to make slowed-down runs that don't seem to be so.

As I said, I believe him to be legit, and thats why I said that I hoped him not to be slowing it down ("hope" in a true sense, as in "I hope the highscoring scene is still legit and noone is corrupted because I don't want the game to screw up as in 2005"; not as in "he better isn't...", which may sound like). But this is not speedhack-protected and its logical and reasonable to have doubts, in fact it'd be dumb not to have them and not to be critical considering that the posibility exists, the posibility is there and you have to contemplate it thats all. The worst you could do is just assume one thing or the other.

As you said you haven't been there while they were done, they are quite good. I remember back in the summer battling a shitload of levels with him up to a dozen times each, so I think the frustation is justified haha. Take a look at the shortest 0th-1st differences on the first 2 columns to see what I mean. Or talk to kk, I spent hours on IRC most days and he used to be there, we chatted a lot about VS and that can make you have a different point of view, its not the same if you have been absent while all this action happened. Its pretty mysterious thats all, thats why doubts can arise, as always, because VS has no connection to the community yet he took enough 0ths to reach 3 digits. Wouldn't be a bad idea to join here, or take 100 more 0ths but this time in NReality. However while doing this I rather thought him to be a veteran (as it was clear he was not a newbie), not a cheater, as I said.

I wish I could have kept playing but I don't have that much time now, and so I spend it on userlevels, but thats another topic :P

Yeah, maybe that didn't come out quite right on my end. Didn't mean to accuse you of assuming anything, just making sure that you knew he had done things other than pure UC runs. I took a look at his NReality page because I thought that I saw his name on the speedrun boards somewhere. Turns out he has 7 submitted runs, 3 of them are current *0ths, and one other is a *0th->1st, which sounds like you took from him, and then 3 more non-ranked runs. Looks like a pretty good track record to me, I know I'd like to have that kind of ratio :)

He did submit a run to NReality. I guess in my previous post I kinda fluctuated between assuming he is FDan and not doing so.

But yeah they can totally be legit, it would be cool to see him around though.

Haha yeah he stopped underclocking but he never used to mention his runs on the forums or anything like that so that wouldn't mean anything. Anyway its something we can't know about really.

Just wanted to chime in for a second regarding the legitimacy of fdan/Voted Straw's runs... N2 does have a slow-down feature detection implemented. (I'm not sure how effetive it actually is against slow down software, but it has caused my game to be "detected" if my computer started lagging or something...) I'm not sure if this is common knowledge like on NReality, so I thought I'd mention it.

As for macro's runs - your 8-2 was dope. Too bad about the slight hiccup in the top-left, but it is still a solid run nevertheless. Good job eclipsing Lim's run on 26-0. (How many does he have left now? I'm on an old laptop so I don't have current info atm.) Finally, great job taking Gutland's 22-2. I know he has improved his run a few times several years ago from memory, which begs the question: "When was the last time someone other than Gutland held that 0th?
