It's really kinda easy if you have a certain route.
But I'll stay in, it's fun to play, even if the score often depends on when you submit your demo and how exactly you get to the set time.

i can't get 145.000, i've got 1 frame faster/slower like 5 times, so i'm submitting 145.025 at least

Added current runs to the current standings list.

Also added a poll, wanting some popular opinion on how tie scoring should be. I've had a few people suggest that maybe it would work better with tied points for tied scores, and without you guys participating it wouldn't happen at all. So let me know what you think.

I think both ways have a negative side.

The first possibilty is based on when you read, that a new map is being played. If you are unable to visit the forums, read the thread at the last possible day, and submit a run which excatly fits the given time, you wont win anything.

The second possibilty eiminates the problem listed above, but creates a new one: since it is not THAT hard to get the exact time (in my opinion; DDRave and vankusss didn't get it in the second round so far otherwise) there are maybe 3 or 4 players who get the same amount of points.

I see a third possibilty, ut it has also a little problem. If there is a tie, the framecount decides. You can make a slow agd and get the time, or a fast agd-4 and get it too, and if that's the case, the one with the less frames is ranked better. The bad thing is, that this contest would get more dependent from one's skill again; better players will more likely be able to get the target time faster, than a weaker player, and that works against the concept of this concept.

But I just want to present my idea here, I don't want this contest to die because it features a new and cool idea.

Just saw this and I'm am going to try to keep up with it.

A couple notes:
1) Just to be explicit about it, are we posting runs here or PMing them to you, golfkid?

2) As far as the poll goes, I voted for the latter choice, but I've reconsidered from the context of this competition and I think it's better if it's first come, first served. It encourages people to play more often and for the best score a little more than a "score = points earned" system.

As for this:
Etz wrote:The first possibilty is based on when you read, that a new map is being played. If you are unable to visit the forums, read the thread at the last possible day, and submit a run which excatly fits the given time, you wont win anything.
I don't see that as a significant loss. It's a neat characteristic to have in a competition, but if it's not there, it's no biggie, especially with the week-to-week structure of this competition.

Post the runs here, not PM them to me.

I'm going to wait till the end of the weekend to make a decision on what to do with the scoring.

Here's 145.000 exactly:

:)

By the way, after getting that score, it seems to me that this contest is a little too chance-based. I will probably check out later rounds but I'm not as enthused. Still an interesting idea, though.

That's also right. If you REALLY want to win a competition you should check the contest's thread regularly, just to be informed.
But I still stick to my explanation, even though you cinvinced me a bit of your point of view :)

Ok, round 3 is now up, and congratulations to Etz for grabbing the lead as the only one to get the exact time both weeks.

As far as the poll went, the majority has spoken and ties will now get the same number of points. Sorry, Avarin, but you were simply outnumbered here. Also, I hope you still submit a few more runs here, but I understand if its not really to your liking.

Here's my submission, if it's not too late:

93.500:

Purposely slowing down a bit (like I do at the end of my demo) is okay, right?

And if it isn't, well then here's a different demo:

Avarin, your submission isn't too late, since I didn't get around to changing the map till now. Also, the little bit of slowing down in the first demo is perfectly acceptable, I don't want people just standing by the exit.

I was a little disappointed in the number of submissions this past week. I wonder, does it have anything to do with 999_Springs's thread on demo editing? If so, rest assured that I will check all submitted demos now that there is a confirmed method for checking, using NReality's frame counter.

Also, I thought I'd try and pick a little harder map this week, since Etz has been able to get the exact time all three weeks. We'll see if I succeeded or not. The target time on Temple of the VoidStar by ChaoStar (map ID 162980), is 104.000. Good luck to all entrants this week.

Week 4 is over, and the next week is now officially starting. The map for this week is Map Swap #2 by cucumber_boy/kkstrong (map ID 75120). The target time is 106.000.

This last week was disappointing as far as only getting two submissions. So, with the apparent decreased interest, and Etz's commanding lead (this is the first week he hasn't hit the target time), this may well be the final week, unless I get feedback from several people that want this to continue and want to participate.

A day and a half left to submit runs for this week, and hopefully to keep this thing going strong. Not suprisingly, Etz has once again reached the target time exactly, although it took him two submissions this week.

Etz and Avarin, you both have submitted two, so your times are set now. Just making sure you guys know that.
