I have been working on a lot of different projects recently, and this is probably my most successful one so far. It's called Ship'n, and it has bugger-all of a plot. Okay, so a whole bunch of robots called you fat, and you're taking you're revenge. But you did the same thing, so you all want to kill each other. The point is that you can't progress until you kill everything else. The controls are as intuitive as I could make them. Simply click somewhere and hold to fly. F is to shoot, and space is to drop a bomb. Your bullets and bombs recharge, the machine gun is extremely powerful at close range, and the bomb does splash damage as well as inheriting your speed and direction. Finally, if you right click the ship locks in place, right click again or left click to begin moving again. Almost everything kills you on impact, except for the spammers. The spammers are the grey squares that spaz out when shot, avoid them. You should be able to tell that ship'n is in dire need of level design, and there are some bugs that need fixing. I also have more ideas like a way of punishing the player for waiting at the top of the screen when fighting water turrets and mines. If anybody wants to do some spriting for it, remember to make the sprite double the size of the actual one, as everything gets scaled down in-game. I don't know why I did it, I guess I just think that there's a chance for a scroller somewhere in there. Anyway, enjoy!

That's awesome!. Scrolling would be a great addition, so that the levels could be a lot more open-spaced, as they need to be due to the speed at which you travel. I think a little colour in the levels would be a good addition. You could have levels where you are travelling through a cave, and there would be no enemies - it would just be about driving skill. I'd love to help out, but im not sure i can do much beyond ideas :/

yeah, the sound right now is a bit weird, but music will allow people to adjust their speakers. i'll add some enemy specific sounds and stuff so it'll sound like a real battlefield. if you want to help i could always use sprites and sounds, right now i'm just ripping them all out of half-life 2.

Nice. But it starst the level right away, without a warning. Maybe a something will alarm player before level started?
Possibly.

Actually, I just put in a feature where the ship starts the level frozen. It works a lot better now.

You know, this is a pretty cool game. Graphics are reasonable, and it's addictive as anything. :D

If you want music... well, I'd certainly be happy to write something, if you want.

EDIT: Cool feature. It was kinda weird when you start dying instantly....

Music would be great, but didn't you make some before? that stuff was really good, do you still have it?

Perhaps you could use a system based off foreground/background image + movement allowence, as a three-layer type thing for your levels. You could make the foreground + background image first, then trace along the lines to tell the game where the player is/isnt allowed to enter.

Well because I'm using game maker I can easily put in a background and then use an invisible mask for the collisions. But it would be easier for level design if I just put some colour and details in.

Yeah, I've done a fair amount of game music which hasn't been used, so I'm sure there are some songs which would easily fit into the game. Do you have any in mind, or would you just like me to PM a list of a majority of the game-styled stuff I've done so you can choose (or see if you want something new written)?

Yeah, just pm me everything and I'll choose the ones I like. Really what I want is something very subtle, like a soundscape, because it will mostly be covered by explosions and gunfire. So send me the ones you have made so far, and if I like some I'll use them/request more similar.
