Anyone else here a keen chess player, whether it be competitively or just for fun? I don't play competitively (well, not properly) myself, although a couple of my friends do.William Napier wrote:Of Chess it has been said that life is not long

Although, when I was younger I used to play Chessmaster 7000 and Lego Chess a lot. I loved the fact that I could beat Bo-bo the Chimp at chess.

Well, I'd call myself average. Maybe we should create a Metanet tournament?

As for a tourney, sounds good. Any freeware that it can be done on?

Feel free to post any good games you've had here too, but please use spoilers if you do.

I can take a look for stuff to do a tourny over the internet. Worst case scenario, we could do it via irc. Tedious, but certainly possible....

Without a clock, though, is a different matter. I can work out quite a lot of possibilities, and I very often win games that way. I once managed a draw by perpetual check against some Elo 2000+ person (without a clock, obviously).
I don't play chess outside of school. I'm too lazy...
Completed N and NReality.
106 N v1.4 highscores.
I used to maintain 1000 NReality Level Top20 Highscores - Ranked 0th
Former Owner of Episode 169, way back when.
I've taken 10 Metanet 0ths. 6 of them lasted <2 days. I don't have any of them anymore. >:(
Third Place in BLUR 4 highscore.
Not highscoring anymore until v2.

I play for my school team, but that's it. We recently made the British Schools Semi-Final, but we ended up 4th as we didn't have our board 1 or board 3. And I know what you mean about the chess clock, I lost one of my games there on time when I had 2 rooks against rook and knight in a very tense 3 hour 59 minute game (he had one minute left as well ;_;)999_Springs wrote:I've been playing chess for about 8 years now. So far, my worst chess enemy is that horrible thing called THE CHESS CLOCK. It is SO intimidating. Tick! Tock! Tick! Tock! Worse are the digital ones which count down every second in big numbers on the screen. ARGH. They distract me from my thoughts. I have probably lost a game on time about 50+ times, and only once have I ever won a game on time.

I just registered on Chess.com (you do it too). On the site there is -make a tournament- option. I'll open it when it's needed.
And please, after 12th August.

I have a bcf grade of about 80 (which due to the new grading system will be pushed up to about 135).flagmyidol wrote:I would be definitely be up for a tourney. Btw, does anyone on Metanet have a ranking? Share.
Someone in my year has a bcf grade of 180+, he's one of the top 5 under 16s in Britain. I think his FIDE is about 2150 but I'm not sure...
I don't know what rating system they employ in other countries (other than FIDE), so I don't know how this would compare.
