Jasdanu & Golfkid
Aesthetics – 15/20 Good
Gameplay – 25/30 Very well designed, I felt; the optional trapdoor was a nice touch.
Fun – 23/30 Jumping around on the tiles was really fun, and the difficulty was well judged.
Use of theme – 15/20 I like the whole vortex idea, even if it is a bit clichéd.
Total – 78/100 Good job.
Squibbles & atob
Aesthetics – 17/20 I love the fossil!
Gameplay – 22/30 Pretty solid, but the left hand side was weaker than the right.
Fun – 24/30 Fun!
Use of theme – 18/20 Great interpretation.
Total – 81/100 Very good!
Leaff & Goatman
Aesthetics – 11/20 It’s ok, but it looks too plain.
Gameplay – 23/30 Good, and a fantastic use of teleporters
Fun – 24/30 Really fun!
Use of theme – 12/20 Not terribly inventive, but acceptable I guess.
Total – 70/100 Fun but a bit on the bland side.
Viil & chume14
Aesthetics – 15/20 Each section looked pretty good.
Gameplay – 21/30 Quite long, but none of the sections were too hard.
Fun – 20/30 Surprisingly fun.
Use of theme – 19/20 I really like this interpretation!
Total – 74/100 Your ambitious approach paid off!
Lightning & Meta Ing
Aesthetics – 13/20 Decent enough.
Gameplay – 19/30 I liked the idea, but it was waaaay too long.
Fun – 15/30 Frustrating.
Use of theme – 16/20 I liked the use of launchpads.
Total – 63/100 Would have been much better if it was half as long.
BionicCryonic & Inspired
Aesthetics – 16/20 Good stuff
Gameplay – 27/30 Wow. Full of clever ideas, and very well executed, too. I wasn’t too keen on how you left it cheatable, though.
Fun – 25/30 Very fun indeed.
Use of theme – 17/20 Few complaints here.
Total – 85/100 Fantastic!
Kablamo and GTM
Aesthetics – 15/20 The top looks a little rough, otherwise pretty solid.
Gameplay – 22/30 Quite challenging to AGD. The enemy usage was good.
Fun – 20/30 Reasonably fun, but it got a bit frustrating at times.
Use of theme – 16/20 Clocks showing different times – simple yet effective.
Total – 73/100 Good.
Ninja143 and Flagmyidol
Aesthetics –
Gameplay –
Fun –
Use of theme –
Total –
Eganic & RandomDigits
Aesthetics – 15/20 Pretty cool.
Gameplay – 20/30 Generally good, but I think the rocket was a bad choice.
Fun – 19/30 Reasonably fun, up ‘til the rocket >:/
Use of theme – 11/20 I could see what you were trying, but it didn’t really come off that well.
Total – 65/100 A bit on the average side of things.

I'm not going to contest (no pun intended) something that is, after all, mostly subjective. I stand by my judging, so we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. Anyway, maxson has yet to post his judging, so these scores are in no way final.brighter wrote:The theme of Bionic and Inspired's map isn't strong or creative enough for 17/20. Some of the judging in this contest is a little thoughtless, imo.

cheesemonger: ninja and I are rolling along. something will appear in this thread soon, unless you just want to disqualify us for the round. is the scoring cumulative in any way (over the course of several rounds, I mean)?

I was just asking for a little reasoning is all. You judged the other themes quite harshly, and all they did ws add two clocks to the tilesets which isn't very imaginative at all. I'm not talking about subjectivity, I'm talking about consistency: all your previous scores and reasoning seem out of alignment with this one.cheesemonger wrote:I'm not going to contest (no pun intended) something that is, after all, mostly subjective. The two reasons I added marks for them was because the player (virtually) returned to the beginning of the map after travelling all the way through it and the teleporters linked the player to different areas of the map where the clocks showed different times, both of which, I felt, indicated time travel. Personally, I felt that these demonstrated the theme enough to justify 17/20. Anyway, that's my reasoning behind it; I stand by it. I'll see what maxson thinks about it (he told me that he was going to try and get his judging in soon, so hopefully we won't have to wait too long).brighter wrote:I was just asking for a little reasoning is all. inspired/biocryo
gameplay: 13/30 there were too many gimmicks for it to be coherent
fun: 23/30 I’m giving a higher rating for fun because it was unlike any other map I had played before
aesthetics: 18/20 definitely a good-looking map
use of theme: 18/20 the clocks and the teleporters were really cool here
total: 72/100
chume/viil
gameplay: 10/30 there were some okay spots, but I disliked most of the map and there were no redeeming parts. it seemed kinda thrown together with little thought (not saying it was, I’m saying it seemed like it)
fun: 10/30 same as gameplay here
aesthetics: 8/20 it was far too messy to have any aesthetic pleasure
use of theme: 16/20 the separate times it represented were pretty cool, and whether they looked badly or not doesn’t factor in here
total: 44/100
golfkid/jasdanu
gameplay: 19/30 the gausses seemed a bit ineffective (but not too much) and a few pieces of gold were awkward to collect. still, solid mechanics for the most part
fun: 20/30 the great flow really helped here
aesthetics: 14/20 somewhat generic, but that’s okay in my opinion
use of theme: 11/20 I understand the connection (like TV shows where the character goes spiraling and spinning through the time warp or whatever) because I was looking for it, but time travel would be one of the last things to cross my mind by looking at this map otherwise
total: 64/100
meta ing/lightning
gameplay: 25/30 when you break it down into mechanics, each section is nice and often a new spin on a previous part of the map
fun: 5/30 way too long and difficult to keep me interested in it for a long time; it seemed that you two could have easily made a better, easier map by toning it down and shortening it.
aesthetics: 13/20 the tiles were nice, and the gold was pretty cool too, even if there was a bit too much
use of theme: 15/20 a pretty cool take on time traveling by having a back-and-forth structure
total: 58/100
atob/squibbles
gameplay: 26/30 really fun, and nothing felt out of place
fun: 26/30 same as gameplay here
aesthetics: 18/20 you guys complimented the nice gameplay with nice looks too
use of theme: 13/20 I can’t see the relevance, though cheesemonger seems to see it (I only looked at his judging after I gave up looking for the theme); could one of you please explain?
total: 83/100
randomdigits/eganic
gameplay: 14/30 the rocket was a bad call, and many of the gausses seemed to do nothing. I think enemy placement was not the problem; I think you just chose the wrong enemies
fun: 17/30 a couple extra points for the cool launchpad tricks near the exit
aesthetics: 17/20 a nice-looking map
use of theme: 18/20 cool interpretation, and good implementation in the map
total: 66/100

also, cheesemonger explained the theme to me via pm, so I'm giving atob/squibbles a 13 for theme.
Sorry leaff/goatman; I'll judge your map in the next 12 hours or so, I promise D:
edit: here it is
gameplay: 19/30 the enemies could've been more effective, but those teleporters were very nice
fun: 21/30 again, great teleporters, but that exit switch was a bit frustrating
aesthetics: 12/20 it wasn't ugly, but nothing stood out
use of theme: 16/20 cool take on the theme
overall: 68/100

I'll stick with it in the hope that it'll get interesting.

Is anyone actually still interested in this? It's just I don't want to bother running this if I'm left with only two or three people.
EDIT: OK, from the overwhelming response I'm getting, I reckon this is dead.
