I'm just an average speed runner :D
Do we get to see other people's runs too?
PS, thanks for restarting this. Highscoring comps have pratically frozen since I had to end Mistixia. Also, how did you contact Hendor? I'd very much like to have a word to that lad.

Heh. Well, I'll see how the numbers work out when I start this thing, but I'll keep you in pro speed for now :P
You won't be able to see other people's runs during the contest, but you will be able to see their scores. This is so that you know where you stand but you can't steal innovations without figuring them out by yourself, which is a good compromise in my eyes.
Thanks!
I was quite lucky in contacting Hendor; I pm'd him and left a comment on one of his maps, and, to my surprise he replied less than 24 hours later o_O
If you want to talk to him, I suggest doing both the things I did and just waiting; hopefully he'll get back to you soon enough, I may have just been lucky in getting such a quick reply.

Holly shit you still lurk around?!!!?. You should stop by IRC #n-highscores. You were a nasty highscorer, all of the highscores that are almost maxed are yours.

lol, tom-a-to, tom-ah-to. Damnit, seifer & izzy's in too, I guess it's not that good until all the better players are in :/ You're going to need more positions or ways to get points, or else half the people will be out in the first round.

Perhaps there shouldn't be eliminations, this should be like paradigm. The one with the fastest speedrun/highscore chooses the next map. Scores remain for bragging right ;]

Awesometacular. I'm in - I'll try and fight it out with the pros, both speedrun and highscore.

Maybe, between rounds, you should make it so the best-performing amateur has to move up to the pros, and the worst performing pro has to move down to the amateurs? (Depending on how much overlap there is between the two, obviously, and possibly even more than one in either case if there is much overlap.)

Not that I'm in the contest, but what if you held tryouts to get into the pros, and everyone else was just an amatuer. That way people could move up in the rankings. Just an idea.

I'll give this a try. Amatuer in highscoring and speedruning.

Thanks for the pm

Since I'm probably the best in New Zealand (sorry Inspired..) I guess that makes me pro.
Highscore, not speed

EDIT: I'm highscorer #23 : I can't lose!

Hmm, I dunno; the tryout would have to be some kind of contest in itself, and could easily become pretty complicated. I don't think it would be too hard to switch people around if they find themselves out of their depth or if they constantly outperformed their competitors.

I suppose another possible way of doing it would be to just put it all into a league format, so points could be scored cumulatively, although I'm not sure how keen people would be if the contest dragged on for weeks on end (I certainly might fall behind on the organisational front).

just make it like paradigm as I said. The best player chosed the next map to speed.

As well as for organization, just make everyone play an insanely difficult map, the top half are pros, the bottom half are amateurs. Just a suggestion.

I'm not so keen on the paradigm shift format; I just don't think it would work well in a the context of highscoring at all.
Also, ability to beat maps =/= ability to beat them quickly. If I were to choose insanely hard maps, I reckon quite a few of the fastest people here wouldn't be able to beat it (with ease, at any rate), whereas some of the slower competitors could overcome them more easily.

I reckon I can trust to people's self assessment and my own judgment of their abilities to separate contestants; once we have enough competitors, I'll make sure everyone knows which categories they are down for, and if they have any problems with that, then they can pm me and I'll try and sort it out.
