Week Two: Embrace Cloning

I was never really sure what to think about cloning. It just sounds... off. However, one of the points that I liked about this article was that twins are essentially clones, yet completely different on a psychological level. Sure, clones would be exact copies of the parent, but the completely random events that shape our childhood would have the same effect on the clone, so really he would be a completely different person. I don't believe there isn't any reason not to clone, other than the fact that humans are multiplying enough anyway.

Damn Straight.

Anyways, there really is no reason not to, except for overpopulation. Also, it would be a godsend to homosexual couples.

That's just enough good reason not to do this.
Why is no one talking about cloning endangered species?

That, sir, is an awesome idea! I can't believe that I hadn't thought of that.

You've never heard of the problems with bananas, have you?

Cloning, as a method of large scale reproduction, doesn't work. It is anathema to the genetic diversity that has driven evolution forward at a breakneck base for the past billion years. The rise of sexual reproduction was perhaps the single most significant stage in the progression of life on Earth with the possible exception of the oxygenification of the atmosphere (which created the ozone layer and allowed for the evolution of aerobic metabolisms).

Cloning endangered species will work until they all die from a virus, sure. It also won't be any easier than allowing them to reproduce via traditional methods.
