If you want to see specific demos after each round, pm me and I'll send you the data.Tunco123 wrote:Could we see the demos after the contest/round is over?
I didn't think this map was too hard, and anyway, if you can't get a decent completion after a whole week, then I don't know why you're even in this competition. You may not like the map, but this isn't a mapping competition, it's a highscoring one; you're not judging the quality, you're just trying to highscore it. I'm not going to change the map, so you might as well just play it and stop complaining. If you don't submit a demo because you don't like the map, you're just damaging your own chances of winning.
Btw, that's not just aimed at you, Radium.

Sorry, I'm going to have to rant a bit.Seneschal wrote:It would be preferable if you did not share demos. Telling someone else an innovation they're missing not only compromises your own chances but that of other people's who haven't seen/noticed that particular innovation.TheRealOne wrote:Seeing as this is a protected contest, I am assuming that we are not allowed to share demos? or are we on a voluntary basis?
So, to repeat, you are not allowed to show other people your demos.
Firstly - how can you say it wouldn't be in your interest to share your demos with other players who are not in your group? Doesn't make sense to me.
Secondly. This map has a plethora of problems, including irritating mine placement, atrocious gold placement, awkwardness, another problem which I'm not going to reveal until the end of the round) lack of non-linearity which I believe is essential for these kind of maps, (particularly in early rounds) This map just didn't resonate with me, did anyone else find this map annoying?

Me. It's pretty annoying and you listed why. Though, gold accessibilty-enemy placement was very annoying too. :/ska wrote: This map just didn't resonate with me, did anyone else find this map annoying?

I agree, and I thought this was a practice map, not the actual competition map O_o I gotta start getting demos, and find some way to beat 249

I think I addressed that with the second part of the comment; namely, that giving one person an innovation will damage the chances of other people in their group.ska wrote:Sorry, I'm going to have to rant a bit.Seneschal wrote:It would be preferable if you did not share demos. First of all, from a highscoring point of view, this map isn't linear at all. Secondly, even in speedrun mode, linearity =/= identical completion methods. Being the only person who can actually see the demos, I can safely tell you that people's runs are, so far, far from identical (currently there's almost 200 frames between first and last on speedrun mode (not counting the highscores which appear there)).ska wrote:Secondly. As I said in the previous post, you have a whole week to get a decent completion and/or highscores this, which should be plenty of time. This map is nowhere near as annoying as the vast majority of the ingame levels, and not nearly as difficult as them either.
If you have any complaints about the map itself, I suggest that you post them here, not on this thread.

There will be three maps/rounds in the group stages, and then three more rounds after that.Tunco123 wrote:How many rounds there will be?
In other words, 16 people in the first three rounds, 8 in round 4, 4 in round 5, and then for round 6 there will be two in the final and two in the third place play-off.

If it takes you an hour to get that kind of run then why were you even in the competition? It took me under five minutes to beat that run, and I'm not even that good.

It's the map. I'm sure i can beat you in speedrunning on others. That is the kind of map that I /hate/ and i suck at. i always die in the exit tube because it's so goddamn awkward. and i can't see a fucking innovation so i don't even necessarily know if i am doing it correctly. this has been a negative frustrating experience for me so far.. i guess i'll stick around for next map. i'm just distraught over this one.Seneschal wrote:o_ORadium wrote:I probably spent an hour + on the map and I ended up getting a shitty run. I hate this map. It's the kind of map that'd only be fun for casual gameplay and not for highscoring. Speedrun has one route, with barely any room for innovation - the thing with it is that you have to get a jump between mines whilst dodging a rocket and jumping from a slope. I'm currently on a laggy computer and there's no way I can do that.
The rockets work well with the map, the tiles are a bit iffy, and the mine placement is terrible.

I think the exit switch difficulty is taking away the fun from the Amateur players.vankusss wrote:i'm just motivated to get better

It's hard to "show your skills" when you barely able to get pass the exit switch part. You may able to pass thr that 4 out of 5 tries, but for me it's like 3% to 5% chances :) I have submitted a very poor highscores demo tho.... I'm too afraid of going anywhere after getting the exit switch successfully. I have tried quite some time for a better demo, but I failed :)
p.s. I'm not really ranting tho. I'm more of a 'surprise' than a 'dislike' for the host to choose this map, cause this map isn't a very 'smooth' map for many amateur players.

And I'm with van on this, I don't really have any problem with the map. Everything seems fine to me. But then i guess thats why I'm not a reviewer.. :/

I'm at the top and I completely agree with RF and amlt about the physics of the map, but I also agree with van about maning up.
