It did have backwards compatibility would have been more accurate there. The first generation of PS3s did, but they haven't sold a PS3 with PS2 backwards compatibility for quite a while now. (PS1 compatibility is still there! for all 8 people who care!)

I'm pretty sure the 80 GB versions currently on the market have the Emotion Engine hardware by default... don't they?

Oh, and I'm one of the 8 people. Crash Bandicoot games when they were developed by Naughty Dog...!

OMG the Crash Bandicoot games were the best PS1 games I ever played. The original was probably the best in the series just for sheer originality and simple fun gameplay. Looking back at it, the graphics and such were absolutely terrible, but when I was young, that didn't matter to me and so it still doesn't matter. CB2 has awesome puzzley elements in it as well as a high difficulty. After Crash Team Racing the series went quickly downhill though. I think it was that Naughty Dog no longer made the games. . .

I would like to play Little Big Planet though, it seems to be a rather good game. But then I would have to buy a PS3 and I can't justify the cost of it.

but about the topic, I don't really care which is console is better, since I'd not get one because of the cost. The only thing I can say is I would not get an xbox. Mainly because its microsoft.

I have stairs so everytime I need something I have to run up and down the stairs. That's what keeps me fit.....along with not being completely obsessed with games and doing other things like marching band....that helps too. =P

PFFFFFFFFF.... thats the one thing they fucked up.

i vote for neither Wii, ps3, or 360. PC all the way.

..... but if i had to pick a running mate, id choose the 360. its nice to just pop in a game without have to update or download patches.

You have to update games on the xbox, even though it takes five seconds to do. XD

Xbox is nice because of it's exclusives, esspecially games like bioshock (originally for xbox, but because it was so good, it was released to everything else. The game is so amazing their making five sequels and a movie out of it.).

Orange- N cannot be spoken, or even thought about in my household. If my parents ever found out that I have played N since the cleansing, my life would be ruined. I keep the game in a multi-passworded .rar on a USB flash drive inside a locked boron alloy container that requires two keys to open (I keep one under the 64th hammer in my piano, and the other one in a small section of removable ceiling in the corner of the attic) hidden in a wall compartment lined with aluminium foil to prevent sonar detection behind my 375 kg cupboard, which is bolted to the floor - the only way to reach it is to abseil outside the fourth floor window and use a screwdriver to unfasten the screws holding the secret brick in place on the opposite side of the wall, but the screwdriver must be a specific type like the one I own, since if any other screwdriver comes into contact with the screws, the entire building will explode, as will a seperate charge placed inside the boron alloy container, rendering the USB useless. Even once the container is retrieved, attemping to open it without the arming pin in place (which is kept inside the battery compartment of my Maglite) will cause the water reservoirs lining the container to burst and react with the caesium lining, causing the container to burst into flames - the only way to prevent this is to use the arming pins to shut off the reservoirs with a sliding steel door. The USB itself contains an accelerometer linked to an explosive charge, meaning that if the USB detects its own movement speed as being greater than 5 cm/s, it will explode - any person attempting to steal it would have to move at a uselessly slow speed. Once plugged into a computer, the USB will upload a ghost virus onto it, leaving no traces. Only the right password can deactivate this virus, and if it is left on the computer for more than six hours, it will format all drives.

As you can see, I take my N playing very seriously.

Guiseppi- I'd much rather watch animals get boned in the ass.

Yanni- If it's glad, it's not rape.

Tsukatu- I refuse to use throw-away bags for such a frequent purpose as buying groceries. Instead, I've collected the hair of my two pet dogs and have woven them together into an all-natural, 100% environmentally friendly bag that I bring with me everywhere. And when I buy products that come in glass and plastic containers, I track down the company that packages them and ship back their containers so that they don't take up space in landfills.

Yeah, I use plastic.

right, but it does it automatically. no searching for the right update or wondering what version your copy is... no downloading service packs or other programs required to even launch the damn thing. and alot of top games for the pc require an internet connection just to install/play it, even if its not a multiplayer game.

Internet isn't exactly a rare commodity so that is hardly a bash. This is an ageless debate so I'll open with my stances on all the seventh gen consoles.

X-Box 360 is cool, but I have a PC. There are only one or two games I can think of for the system that I'd like to play and aren't also available on Windows, with unnoticeable differences in graphics and speed. And that's fine, because they're multiplayer, and I can just play them at my friend's house. Name one 360 exclusive must-play game that isn't all about the multiplayer. Gears, Soul Cal, Halo, RE5. Just off the top of my head. Those are great games I can't play on my computer, but I wouldn't really want to play them by myself anyway. And I don't even like Halo, I'm just pandering with popular names to make a point.

Conclusion: If one of your friends has this console, and you have a computer, you really don't need it. Even if your friends don't, you still don't need it. However if you like being an ass to total strangers and making them listen to your horrible horrible voice while they're trying to enjoy a multiplayer experience, go no further. True, some PC games let you do this as well, but it's much less horrible and may not suffice.

Wii is pretty neat. Sure, it lacks horsepower and Nintendo has the worst online imaginable. Friend codes are a joke, and quite frankly, an insult. But if I want online gaming I'll use my computer, where I can communicate with a keyboard and not have to put up with all of your horrible voices. The Wii alone has functioning backwards compatibility. The control is freaking amazing. It is essentially a mouse that can track a third axis, while retaining all functionality of a normal controller. When a Wii exclusive game comes out you know exactly what exclusive means: you won't be seeing this anywhere else. X-Box 360 exclusive just means it might be a couple months or a year before you get to play the PC version. Oh yeah, and Nintendo has been making games and consoles for more than twice as long as any of their competitors. That helps a lot. People will rag on Zelda, Metroid, and Mario, citing over reliance on the same old franchises. So what? They're good franchises. Most of the games in all of those series are enjoyable. Maybe even solely worth owning the console for, as if there weren't also tons of other games and series worth playing on the system.

Conclusion: This is the kiddy console. Only babies play Nintendo are you kidding me. It's just a GameCube with new controllers. What.

And uh, hmm. Yeah I think that about covers my opinions. Both sides of the issue there. It's a shame people always limit these threads to the home consoles, as the DS is the clear cut winner in every respect.

*COUGH*

ok, so i dont think i explained myself clearly.

when i said "the wii isnt a legitimate consol" i was referring to its lack of power and perfomance when compared to a computer or 360, aka next gen apparently. anyone who is active in irc will remember all those E3 things going off and they all referred to new advanced ai and new real time technology as 'next gen' and i used the word to make a point:

i didnt say "the wii isnt a legitimate NEXT GEN consol" because when i think of consol, i think snes, sega, atari, and pong. the wii stands out because the fact that it doesnt market gamers. in fact, it is the innocent nerve point to where the industry decides to milk this thing out a little more with reality shows and movies (ie 'Gamer' movie). so i guess i was still a little sore when i said that. but thats just IMO.

anyways, i dont have a resentful feel towards the wii cause i dont like it, i love drunkin nights of bowling and boxing (we made a character called 'hungry hungry hobo' and made him look like a scraggly old man) with a bunch of my friends.
and hell, it makes things easier on the whole gaming community. no longer will we have nothing to say back at the old: "video games make you fat and lazy"

our answer: Wii fit

i just dont prefer it. i strongly dont prefer it.

thats all i was trying to say, so im sorry for the confusion. im pretty bipolar on this topic.

I don't know what you mean by not marketing to gamers. Gamers are people who have been playing systems for a long time and want something innovative, such as the motion controls of the Wii, rather than the standard FPS and Madden.

Furthermore, much of the hubbub at E3 were the motion controls being introduced by the PS3 and the 360.

Speak for yourself.
I was waiting for VR to be utilized, not motion controls. if you want that go to the arcade.

And ive been playing games since the days of prodigy internet killing time with Mad Maze and Life or Death and Carrier Command.
And for the record, i hate madden. FIFA all the way ^_^.

The Wii doesn't [t]arget gamers? That is a load of bull. Have you played SSBB, ever?
I think the Wii wins the '4-players-in-a-room' category hands down. None of the other consoles get close to achieving the fun I have had on that thing. (LBP is the closest, but it is a distant second)

yes i have, and no i didnt like it.

the N64 and gamecube SSB are better IMO.

but thats just me. i really dont like anything out on the Wii very much, it all gets a 'ooh thats kinda fun' or a 'are you fucking shitting me? thats lame'. i dont even like getting stuck on the Wii station at the gamestop near me cause someone is on the 360 and PS3 stations.

Just in case anyone hasn't already realized this, I purchased a PS3 not too long ago (PSN name is Newfrag, by the way) and I'm impressed. I bought GTA 4 with it and got Killzone 2 the following week. I've already seen some 360 games at my friend's house and the one that hooks me the most is Gears 2, which is a shame because it's a Microsoft game. Killzone 2, however, is big competition. Then there's the other ones I haven't tried yet, like Resistance 2, Infamous, Little Big Planet, MGS 4, and of course, the Sony Entertainment powerhouse, God of War 3. Then the multiplatform games like Burnout Paradise (picking that up next week) and Resident Evil 5. I got the demo and it's basically RE 4 with different characters, offline and online co-op, better graphics, and slightly smoother controls. It plays almost the same, however the analog sticks controls can be reversed, which is what I'm used to.

Despite all this, I think I'll get a 360 in... say, 2 months when I have some more money. I really want Ace Combat 6 and Gears of War 2. Otherwise the majority of the games I want are on PS3 or both systems.

I don't think any of the consoles are "better", so to speak, moreso than they are marketed with different genres and groups in mind and therefore people will simply have preferences, with some exceptions. You could argue sales figures, but just because a lot of people like something doesn't make it better than something else to the point where you should buy it because others have it. There are more variables than that. Appealing to the masses, folks, is not the way to go. :X

Elaborating more on this, do the alleged "console wars" really matter? All of us play video games, no matter which genre or which console (or PC) they're on, because... they're fun. That's the primary focus. As long as you have the gaming spirit in you and like playing them, then it shouldn't matter what you're playing, it just matters that they're one of your hobbies. We can all relate to it no matter what preferences we have.
