Alternate name of Jared Leto's band?
Groan.

Don't get me wrong, I love Red Sparowes, but I just can't imagine saying that they're the creators of the best post-rock album of all time. Unless soundscape has some obscure meaning that I'm missing, how can you dismiss
The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place or
Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven?

The bold comment really implies that the two genres are existing separately from each other on the album, but it isn't the case at all. Maybe I miss represented it from the start, a better description would be punk with elements of jazz, so of course the groove factor isn't really there. I personally love the cohesion and progression of the album, Funeral Procession wedged between One Stab Deserves Another and For Marcus is a great example of pacing.
I agree with you that lyrically they are a little vapid, and that they could benefit from some longer songs.
Anyway, you've intrigued me. I'm going to try and get my hands on The Shape of Punk to Come.
I respect your opinion and humbly request that you post in this thread again after you've listened to The Shape of Punk to Come. You might have more of an idea of where I'm coming from once you've listened to Tannhäuser / Derivè and The Apollo Programme Was a Hoax.
I don't want to dissuade you from posting other Punk recommendations, either. This forum is sorely lacking in that music genre.
