What about splitting up the game and the NEditor/userlevels?
In other words, build the in-game levels and highscoring for a browser and have NED and userlevels in a standalone application.

The problem I see with this is that there are plenty of people (myself included) who, when playing the in-game levels, have absolutely no intention of highscoring.Manus Australis wrote:What about splitting up the game and the NEditor/userlevels?

To take away part of the game during periods without internet access seems a little silly to me. Unless I'm missing something major, it just seems like standalone application works better or the same as a browser for all major aspects of the game while keeping access easier.MAXXXON wrote:I enjoy being able to play even when I don't have internet access (like, say, on a long car trip to a relative's house or something). Definitely stand-alone.

It doesnt really make a difference because most people know how to get online games offline
Lol
so to save us the trouble you should put it as a stand alone app

That echoes my thoughts, but I think it's probably hoping for too much. I guess it would make the savegame functionality substantially easier to handle, though.AlliedEnvy wrote:Incidentally, I have come to really hate Adobe and Flash (my rant about this would be too long and too off-topic for this post). If you're doing a rewrite, perhaps consider a different platform. (PyGame? Maybe something else with SDL, or maybe even just OpenGL?) I don't know how different AS1 and AS3 are, but perhaps they're different enough it's not any more difficult to port to a completely different platform (or the extra difficulty is worth dropping Flash for).

We're sort of stuck in Flash in that it's not really possible to make it look the same in anything else, we'd have to switch to bitmaps/sprites which would almost certainly not work as well. Also we definitely want to have an in-browser version so that we can wipe out those stupid unlicensed "ngame" web versions once and for all :)

If Linux support is to be expected, standalone all the way. Otherwise, I'd at least like 1.5 to be ported to Flash, if not built in it from the start.

Since we have no idea where everyone stands on this, we figured we'd ask :)

I HATE the intire community of kongregate. I select Standalone. (i chose browser but after i thought it wasnt a good idea.) If N was on Kongregate I wouldnt play even if this was the last game on earth. Then id like Portal 2 even if i saw the spoiler....
