No really, this grey dude sold me onto this brilliant scheme: All you do is mail seven people a dollar, then the next guy replaces the first on the list with you and mails out seven more dollars. All you need to do is donate a pint of blood and a few skin samples a month to The Syndicate, attend their bi-monthly crop circle install and BBQ (the potato salad is to die for!), fry a few cows every now and then, and slip a few bottles of roofies into the chocolate milk punch bowl at your local X-files convention and you'll be rich in no time!Atilla wrote:Whether I believe aliens or not depends on what they're telling me. I mean, if your alien is all "I have this great get-rich-quick scheme, guaranteed to work! Earn $$$ in your free time!" it's clearly lying.

Yeah, I believe in aliens. Odds are there is another planet besides ours that can support life. Whether they have visted us, however, is an entirely different matter.

Simply because, as Condog stated, the chances that there is at least one other planet somewhere out there that can support life is rather high.
I just watched this documentary on Discovery: Journey to the Edge of the Universe. It got me a bit more optimistic.

Yes. I agree that there are aliens in other planets. Oh, and the invisible pink unicorn is real. I've seen it.

Yes, i do believe in life on other planets. I do not believe that they yet have the technology to reach us in a spacecraft though. But this really depends on what you mean by "life". Do you mean Prokaryotes, or eukaryotes? Prokaryotes being organisms which have no cell nucleus or membrane bound organelles, and eukaryotes being prokaryotes, but with a nucleus and membrane bound organelles. Prokaryotes are bacteria and archaea. Eukaryotes can be animals, plants, fungi, and protists. I think think that protists. fungi, bacteria and archaea can all live on other planets. But assuming that organisms that live on other planets can fit into any of these categories. I won't even go there.
Life on other planets is undoubtedly single celled organisms.

Yeah, man. Right on. You absolutely must consider the environment in which other life might develop. For example, in Russia (which is where I was born), the Soviet Union mandated that pi be set at exactly 3 for ease in computation, and acceleration due to gravity is an even 10 m/s^2. Coming to America was nuts, because all of my circular proportions stretched out to make up for the 0.14... difference in pi (I just needed some stitches), although I was lighter on my feet.Lachesis wrote:Humans life is supported by carbon. Lets say that perhaps, 2 quadrillion light years away, is a planet that supports life, but with another element. Therefore, if they were to come here, then they would die, due to the fact that if their life supporting element is something that is not very common on earth, say, francium, then there would not be enough to support them. However, if their element is, say, hydrogen, which is common in our lithoshere, then they have the possibility to survive. But, if they do breathe, then what exactly do they breathe? Oxygen is the most prevalent element in our Lithosphere, at 47%, and silicon at 28%. Aluminum Is 7.9%. They would have to breathe oxygen, since silicon is a solid.

I believe in aliens and UFOs. however, I believe (as does MUFON as an organization) that the majority of sightings are hoaxes or misidentified, and that the hysteria promoted in the field by groups like UFO Magazine result in a lack of proper scientific inquiry in the field. All UFO sightings should be seen with skepticism, and when no explanation is found, you can never definitively declare an extraterrestrial origin.
