--- Week 1 scoring
::Pawz::

lord_day
---
gameplay : 24
replayability : 16
aesthetics : 8
total : 48
(great map. there were a couple things about it that I didn't like... took me a while to get past the upper middle section, but once I got past that the map was considerably simple and easy.)

Skyline
---
gameplay : 18
replayability : 8
aesthetics : 9
total : 35
(it was alright. I realize your object set was sparse... but you didn't seem to use all of the objects when you crafted the tiles around them. The thwump on the left, for example, is just there and doesn't do anything for the map. Overall it was just mediocre for me.)

Losttortuga
---
gameplay : 25
replayability : 18
aesthetics : 6
total : 49
(I really like what you did here. The map offered a challenge even with such minimal objects. Though the aesthetics of the whole thing seemed odd at times, the overall effect was great and I just wanted to play it over and over again.)

jackass77
---
gameplay : 28
replayability : 14
aesthetics : 9
total : 51
(whew! what a rush! I loved the map mostly for its nonlinear aspects and the amount of adventure you added with the top portion. Jumping across the top area to get the switches, then shooting down through the right side to get the final gold at the bottom... it was very well done, but replayability wasn't so great. Needed something else to keep me coming back for more.)

BNW
---
gameplay : 10
replayability : 5
aesthetics : 2
total : 17
(Really not liking this map. I realize you only had gold and a bunch of lasers to work with. Lasers are a hard enemy to use effectively, but at least some crazy, tight-knit gameplay where you're shooting down a shaft as the laser beam is just about to turn bright red... Should have used up the whole week instead of submitting with the best thing you could come up with in 24 hours.)

incluye
---
gameplay : 16
replayability : 10
aesthetics : 8
total : 34
(The gameplay picked up after getting past the gauss turrets. But overall it was a bit choppy, a bit short and not at all challenging. I completed the map with an AGD on my second try. Needed more challenge and more BANANAS, with a hint of lime.)

gloomp
---
gameplay : 14
replayability : 5
aesthetics : 6
total : 25
(little challenge and no reason for me to feel like I should play it again.)

NicNac14
---
gameplay : 17
replayability : 10
aesthetics : 7
total : 34
(Overall I thought the map was fairly mediocre. There were gameplay aspects I absolutely hated and gameplay aspects I really liked, but overall the map was awkward and didn't play very well.)

notsteve
---
gameplay : 28
replayability : 18
aesthetics : 8
total : 54
(this map was amazing. i loved how you used the objects with the tileset so well. there was a lot of adventure and a lot of challenge in this. congrats, dude, you've won this judge over.)

bufar
---
gameplay : 12
replayability : 6
aesthetics : 4
total : 22
(this map was not good at all. Personally, with the seemingly impossible gold near the lower left and the awkward gold-gathering aspect the map seemed like it would have been better suited as a closed, tight-knit map instead of an open-ended, loosely-connected map.)

179
---
gameplay : 22
replayability : 10
aesthetics : 7
total : 39
(Great map overall. Split up into categories it doesn't seem to score extremely well though. I liked the adventure aspect, which a lot of people have seemed to achieve this Week, which I find odd, since I don't normally find much adventure in most of the maps I play. Nonetheless, I liked it.)

toasters
---
gameplay : 16
replayability : 17
aesthetics : 6
total : 39
(I want to finish it. That's why replayability is so high. It's just that it's really pretty hard to do so. Nothing seems connected here.)

Riobe
---
gameplay : 12
replayability : 8
aesthetics : 7
total : 27
(Really not good. Sorry you got the one with all the drones and shit.)

ultCult
---
gameplay : 25
replayability : 16
aesthetics : 9
total : 50
(at first this map was awkward to figure out, but all the little nuances brought this map together. things like the secret path through the middle area, getting killed by the left drone in the tunnel in the top left... yeah. i liked it)

gameplay : 10

(Way too simple. There wasn't much challenge to me. I almost completed it on the first try and almost AGD'd it on my second try, after making a stupid mistake just before getting to the exit.)

Skyline
---
gameplay : 27
replayability : 18
aesthetics : 9

(I liked this a lot. The look of the map, the feel of the map, getting to know the routes of the map... Everything was flowy from one point to the next as each section held its own distinct challenge. Wonderful wonderful job.)

Losttortuga
---
gameplay : 17
replayability : 10
aesthetics : 6
total : 33
(The climb up to the exit was super fun. I wish it had more up/down aspects, as that seems like the map to do an up/down style with. The route was really well made, just not all the objects seemed to agree with it entirely, if that makes sense.)

jackass77
---
gameplay : 12
replayability : 5
aesthetics : 5
total : 22
(There was far too much waiting. I didn't notice many differences from the original map and this map, which I realize wasn't on purpose as you didn't see the original map before submitting... I just didn't like having to wait around for the drones to do their thing.)

NICNAC14
---
gameplay : 13
replayability : 13
aesthetics : 6

(I liked the left half of the map, except there seemed to be a lot of waiting. The right side was fairly lacking, especially because the rocket below didn't do much for me. The gauss turret didn't do as much as I would have liked either.)

2nd - Receives 2 DED maps and 5 rates/comments on maps of their choice
3rd - Receives a DED map and 2 rates/comments on maps of their choice
4th - Gets a Hello Kitty pencil*
* In no way is this actually a prize. 4th place gets a DED map.

---
This contest will run from Monday thru Saturday, leaving Sunday for last-minute scoring and PM'ing of maps

Rules & Procedures:
- Contestants must PM me FIVE (5) MAPS of their own from NUMA. (Authors who have done retile maps are not allowed to choose such maps from their maps.)
- I will remove all the tiles from the map, leaving only objects. DO NOT REMOVE THE TILES YOURSELF.
- From there contestants will be given the objects of another participant's map. Here is where the fun begins.
- Contestants must then place an entirely brand new tileset upon the map, thus altering the original gameplay and aesthetics.
There are 3 rules to retiling:
  • You may not move or delete any objects
  • You may not change any objects (ie, no changing drone paths or adding Nreality code)
  • You may not "remove" objects by covering them up with tiles
- When a contestant feels their retiled map is finished they must post it in this thread by Saturday, 11:59:59pm Pacific Standard Time (-8 GMT). Anybody who does not submit their map on time will be eliminated from the contest.
- This challenge will last 5 weeks. The first 4 weeks everyone will be pitted against each other. At the beginning of the 5th week only the top 4 will continue.
- Please tag all of your maps "retile".
-You may cover up objects HALFWAY with a tile.
Image
Image

Etiquette:
For purposes of etiquette and curiosity, I will give you the map number of the map you retiled, so that you can add a link in your description of the map and so that you can see how different your tileset and gameplay is from the original.

Arbiters
Arbiter is just a fancy name for judge. There will be 3 Arbiters +1 (the extra is so that Arbiters may participate as well) at my discretion, so do not post asking to be an Arbiter.

The following are Arbiters
  • Pawz
  • Skyline
  • incluye
  • Extra Arbiter - lord_day

Scoring:
Scoring will be cumulative, meaning that however many points you earn for each week will be added to your score from each previous week.
Each judges score will be added together, so there are 180pts possible for each week.
Eliminations will happen, but it is possible to avoid elimination. If you score within at least 70% of the person with the highest cumulative score you continue on.

The Arbiters will score as follows:
+ 30pts = gameplay
+ 20pts = replay value (replayability)
+ 10pts = aesthetics

Prizes:
I will reveal prizes at the start of Week 3.

Contestants:
  1. Pawz +
  2. lord_day +

A couple things added to the first post. I'll be updating it a little with helpful information in case anybody is confused about anything. Also, please ask questions if anything seems unclear.

Also be sure to PM me maps that are your own, and not other people's maps. I guess I didn't make that clear at first.

I would appreciate it if those who have signed up so far would PM me their 5 maps BEFORE Sunday, so as to get things set up sooner rather than later.

Signups are now closed for two reasons:
1. We have 16 contestants as of now.
2. Setting this up is going to take a lot of time and I don't want any last minute signups because I don't want to organize and then reorganize and then reorganize again.

I need those with a (-) sign next to their name under Contestants to send me 5 maps of theirs from NUMA, preferably tonight, but tomorrow is okay as well.

I know that some of you don't actually read the rules and just like to skim the rules.

So here are the rules for mapping, since these are the most important:

1. You MAY NOT move or delete any objects.
2. You MAY NOT change any objects (as in, you can't change from Q paths to W paths etc.)
3. You MAY NOT cover any objects completely with tiles.

Here is what is allowed:

You may cover up objects HALFWAY with a tile.
