Ian McShane, Zooey Deschanel, Martin Freeman, Stephen Fry, James Spader, David Tennant, Paul Giamatti, Lee Tergesen, Titus Welliver (who probably has my favourite name ever; what a great name!).

Thought I'd comment on Hard Candy. While being only a decent film, Ellen Page's performance is ace, and the stuff they did to the film is god-damn awesome. They desaturized every scene, like, thematically, and they recoloured a bunch entirely to give it a fake feeling. I watched a couple of docs on it, and it looked really awesome.

I like that Jesus dude from that snuff film by Mel Gibson who was also in that ridiculous sci-fi Viking epic about the monster from The Relic. He's promising.

Dakota Fanning is a great actress, especially for her young age.

Sigourney Weaver in the first three alien movies.

Oh, please, Zooey is ridiculously overrated.
She's exactly the same character in every movie she's in, and she can only milk her emotionless staring and monotone line delivery method of acting for so long. Hell, she's not even all that attractive; she just has bright eyes.

I guess you didn't see Push. She was horrible.

I beg to differ, I feel she's one of the most gorgeous actresses in the movies recently. And besides, she's always the same character because she pulls it off perfectly.

I guess you don't understand much about movies? Every now and then an actor will be put into a film that will give them nothing to work with. Even some of the highest regarded in the business have had a few stinkers because of this.

Try not to base your opinion on a single example in future, you'll avoid looking so ignorant ;)

It's called being typecast because you've only got one gameface. Repeating over and over does not a good actor make.

I'm pretty sure all of the "good" movies she acted in are negated by how bad her acting was in Push.

She's not trying to become a good actor because she already is one.

Right - and fuck Marlon Brando, Laurence Oliver, and John Wayne, because everyone knows that being in one bad movie negates your whole career.

Also, to chip in... I love Zooey Deschanel. Love her. I once saw a women in a shopping mall who sorta looked like her, and I was unable to properly form sentences or walk right for the better part of an hour; ask Slappy, he was there. But even I won't defend her acting career. She's a beautiful woman, an amazing singer, and an awesome person... but everything she's done post The Hitchhiker's Guide movie has been shit.

Well, except Yes Man. That movie was, against all odds, not too bad.

Totally forgot that. She is a wonderful singer, but Elf doesn't do her justice. She sings some of the soundtrack songs for Yes Man, which is why I really want to buy it. The band in the movie was idiotic though.

EDIT: Thanks to the Mod who deleted my previous post. Nothing better than showing me my place as a lowly layman.

Generally, a good actor can bring something to the table, even when the script and direction are bad.

When I look at Dakota Fanning's career, I see films where she played opposite much better actors (Denzel Washington, Sean Penn) and films where she's just plain awful by virtue of the film being horrible. (The Cat in the Hat, Hide and Seek, War of the Worlds, Uptown Girls.)

Never been impressed by her.

She's (potentially) a much better actress than Denzel Washington is an actor, imo. The only film I've ever seen him that I enjoyed his role was Man On Fire (which really lilke), and that's the film that first made me take note of Miss Fanning.

Of course, I'm impressed with her performance in relative terms, she's such a young girl it's not fair to compare to players with years and years of experience. She certainly is very developed for her age, and shows great potential, and that's what I'm impressed with.

The last ten posts in this thread have set fire to my world. First people like Ben Stiller and now "She's not trying to become a good actor because she already is one." I don't even know where I am right now. All I see it a red mist of rage.

Since we're talking about child actors I'm going to add Haley Joel Osment to my list of favourites.
He was simply amazing in AI.

I agree, and I'll say this: AI is the best movie that Stanley Kubrick ever didn't make but later had the idea raped by Steven Spielberg.

Here's looking at you, Schindler.
