Thought I'd comment on Hard Candy. While being only a decent film, Ellen Page's performance is ace, and the stuff they did to the film is god-damn awesome. They desaturized every scene, like, thematically, and they recoloured a bunch entirely to give it a fake feeling. I watched a couple of docs on it, and it looked really awesome.

Dakota Fanning is a great actress, especially for her young age.
Sigourney Weaver in the first three alien movies.

She's exactly the same character in every movie she's in, and she can only milk her emotionless staring and monotone line delivery method of acting for so long. Hell, she's not even all that attractive; she just has bright eyes.

I guess you didn't see Push. She was horrible.atob wrote:Dakota Fanning is a great actress, especially for her young age.
I beg to differ, I feel she's one of the most gorgeous actresses in the movies recently. And besides, she's always the same character because she pulls it off perfectly.Tsukatu wrote:Oh, please, Zooey is ridiculously overrated.

I guess you don't understand much about movies? Every now and then an actor will be put into a film that will give them nothing to work with. Even some of the highest regarded in the business have had a few stinkers because of this.Life247 wrote:I guess you didn't see Push. It's called being typecast because you've only got one gameface. Repeating over and over does not a good actor make.Life247 wrote: And besides, she's always the same character because she pulls it off perfectly.

I'm pretty sure all of the "good" movies she acted in are negated by how bad her acting was in Push.atob wrote:I guess you don't understand much about movies? She's not trying to become a good actor because she already is one.

Right - and fuck Marlon Brando, Laurence Oliver, and John Wayne, because everyone knows that being in one bad movie negates your whole career.Life247 wrote:

Also, to chip in... I love Zooey Deschanel. Love her. I once saw a women in a shopping mall who sorta looked like her, and I was unable to properly form sentences or walk right for the better part of an hour; ask Slappy, he was there. But even I won't defend her acting career. She's a beautiful woman, an amazing singer, and an awesome person... but everything she's done post The Hitchhiker's Guide movie has been shit.
Well, except Yes Man. That movie was, against all odds, not too bad.

Totally forgot that. She is a wonderful singer, but Elf doesn't do her justice. She sings some of the soundtrack songs for Yes Man, which is why I really want to buy it. The band in the movie was idiotic though.Studebacher Hoch wrote:...an amazing singer...

When I look at Dakota Fanning's career, I see films where she played opposite much better actors (Denzel Washington, Sean Penn) and films where she's just plain awful by virtue of the film being horrible. (The Cat in the Hat, Hide and Seek, War of the Worlds, Uptown Girls.)
Never been impressed by her.

She's (potentially) a much better actress than Denzel Washington is an actor, imo. The only film I've ever seen him that I enjoyed his role was Man On Fire (which really lilke), and that's the film that first made me take note of Miss Fanning.SlappyMcGee wrote:Generally, a good actor can bring something to the table, even when the script and direction are bad.

Of course, I'm impressed with her performance in relative terms, she's such a young girl it's not fair to compare to players with years and years of experience. She certainly is very developed for her age, and shows great potential, and that's what I'm impressed with.
