48:
Have you wanted to learn a programming language, but never started?
Have you been interested in producing content (graphical, game story, dialog, levels) for computer games, or have already done so? (aka. not a coder)
Have you made or ever wanted to create a computer game?

If you answered yes to any of the three, you might want to join in on 48.

The Project:
48 is designed to be a sandbox for coders and content developers alike.
You and a teammate will endeavor to create a game from the ground up in two seven days, or the titular forty-eight hours (Haha T____T). You can use any programming language you want, and can develop for any platform you want. Your game can be anything from a text-based RPG adventure to a hyperspace, puzzle-solving, zombie shoot 'em up. Each round will have a theme that should loosely be adhered to, and is given to just provide a general direction.

The Rules:
1. You're strongly urged to have a teammate.
2. You have up to one-hundred and sixty-eight hours to complete your game
3. There are no restrictions on programming language
4. There are no restrictions on platform
5. You are not required to create every resource on your own, but you are urged to do so. If you must use someone else's work, make sure it's not copyrighted, and give full credit

The Time Limit:
You have exactly a week to complete your project. Themes are given at the beginning of each round.
Set time limit is from Saturday morning at 0:00:00 until Friday night at 23:59:59, though being exact isn't really important. Just make sure you've submitted your work before the week limit ends.

Round Zero:
Starting the 18th of December, 48 is on.
48:0 will largely consist of figuring out what needs to change to make this project successful. Everyone is more than welcome to join. In fact, consider yourselves strongly invited. If you've ever wanted to code something, but never got around to it, join in. If you want to draw things for games, join in. Let's try and make this an enjoyable project that can keep happening.

Edit:
I realized two days really isn't enough time, so I've extended the duration to a week. Hopefully this'll be less stressful, and will entice more people to join in. There is still a bit of time until Friday, so if you want to join in, say so in a reply. (Also, you may see that I haven't changed the name of the project. Hah.)

I hardly see how wanting to know a programming language will allow you to participate here.

I was thinking that. I'd like to learn C++, but I fail to see how I'd get anything done in just 48 hours with no experience of it...

I wasn't planning on googling for tutorials to populate the list, but if I have to, I will. The reason 48's demographic aims to include people who want to learn a language is to give them an excuse to do so, and (hopefully) a friend to do it with. People who do know a language can challenge themselves with it. The point isn't to make an awesome game, it's to see how much you can learn and get done in the short time.
I hope this makes sense.

I believe that 48 hours is not enough time to learn a programming language. However, I will participate.

Mmk.

I want to join. I don't have any coding experience, but I'm sure that I can be graphic designer, I really want to learn coding and all that stuff, it would be really helpful if you posted some tutorials. And, what 'bout 72 hours?

48 is kinda too short for me, 14 hours of sleeping in 48 hours, 16 hours school in 48 hours, 4 hours of total homework and extra work at home in 48 hours, total of 34 hours, which gives me total of 14 hours to work on this project. And no, I don't spend all of my free time on computer, decrease that 6 hours, 8 hours. I get the point though, to develop and/or improve your skills, which has the most importance in this project, so yeah, I can go with 48 hours.

Also sorry for the full-of-numbers post. Just consider that 48 hours is too less amount of time for me/ and some others.

Edit: Because of my schedule and all the work, I won't participate in this.

Edit 2: Fuck. Changed my mind. Add me to the list again.

RAAGEEE! When I submitted my reply I was asked to sign in again and lost it.

Anyway, I am definitely interested in this and would love to give it a shot. Embarrassingly, the only language I have a truly good grasp in is TrueBASIC but I'm sure I can slip into others without too much trouble.

If you start this the weekend after the one you currently have set up (or if I can join next round) I might (**/-might-/**) be down for graphic designer.

Keep in mind that 'content developers' aren't limited to graphics, they can also make story-lines, dialogs, level designs, etc. Also remember that there doesn't have to be one coder and one designer, either team member can do either job together.

I agree, but hopefully you're not waiting until the first round of 48 before starting to learn the basics of basics of your chosen language down. The goal here is to have this a recurring event that you get better with each time.
PALEMOON wrote:can we choose our teammates? i'd like to do this with a friend.
You're more than welcome to. People who don't choose theirs can have others who didn't choose randomly assigned to them before the start of the round.

I didn't choose Christmas weekend, thinking people would be wanting to spend their Christmas weekend doing something other than game-making. If a majority of the participants would rather the weekend of the 25th, I'll go ahead and change it.

Isn't next weekend, like, 19-21?

And I'll be partnered with Studebacher Hoch.

Ohh, right, no, that's true. Is it possible for me to join a later round, then?

Major change.
Two days was too short, extended to seven days. That and if you /really/ don't want a teammate, you don't need to have one. For the beginning developers, though, I recommend having someone with you on this.

You're working with anyone you choose to!

Sorry for the lateness, I was supposed to post this yesterday but decided instead to fall asleep like a loser. The theme for Round Zero is Rain. Take the theme however you choose to. Be creative. Bend it. Twist it. Stick it in a stew. One week from now, everyone can show off what they've come up with. If you end up getting stuck, there are plenty of talented programmers here who can offer advice and direction. Anyway, to recap:

"faemir meet Inspired, Inspired - faemir. Inspired is a young "inspiring" graphic designer, he likes long walks on the beach, lieing on the ground watching the stars and falling asleep listening to the rain. What he wants in a programmer; initiative, creativity and a love for all things code."
Faemir is a guy who is doing his project for 60% of his grade in a language that he only just started learning, and so really needs an excuse to develop his ability in it, because if he doesn't get a B then he can't go to the uni he wants.
