Erm, I suppose this is as good a time as any to announce the New Feature System? Basically, me and Southpaw had the idea that on a certain day every week, a reviewer would be selected to step up to the mark and review three maps in one day, to help inject some variety into NUMA whilst giving individual reviewers/reviews the chance to shine. This day would be entirely at the discretion of the selected review, but must obviously be within the week from Sunday to Saturday, with reviewer selections being made on the Sunday.

Thankfully this system's a lot more moderate than Feature Fun Festival was, but is still more exciting than the current system. If it doesn't work, we can just scrap it. Deal?

Why does it need to be more exciting? The maps are the attraction, not numa.

I have a few questions.
MattKestrel wrote:Erm, I suppose this is as good a time as any to announce the New Feature System? First, will the reviewers be selected from the current roster, or will it just be users who want to do it?

Second, I'm not sure I like this random selection process; the advantage of the current system is that we can choose our own days according to our own schedules. If our days are selected randomly, there's no guarantee that we'll be able to take them, even if they are spread across a week.

Furthermore, some people, like me, aren't awake twenty four hours a day: I tend to get about 8 hours of sleep, and on a schoolday I'd be losing another 9 hours. That means I'd have seven hours to feature three maps, just over two hours each, which doesn't seem like enough to properly showcase them. Unless they'd be done simultaneously? Like, have three maps next to each other on the homepage. Obviously, this is very personalized, but I imagine that other reviewers would encounter similar problems.

Yes, I do realise that I actually only asked one question, but meh.

I agree with Rocket_Thumped in that the maps are the key attraction to featuring, not the system. However, we all know how much fun we had when we were given more free reign with out features. Southpaw and I just thought this would be a convenient way to inject that same feeling into NUMA without the consequences. Now for Seneschals points...

1) Reviewers will only be selected from the new roster, which will contain all of the current reviewers sans the loonies, plus the winner of southpaw's contest (ie that post on the home page) No one else will be selected.
2) Fair dos, I just didn't want the same reviewers to always take the multiple days. Maybe I should just do a checklist of who wants to do the multiple feature days instead.
3) The day on which the mutiple reviews would be done could be picked by the selected reviewer, as stated on the original post. If one day is incovenient, they can select another within the week.

It seems like a pretty cheesy idea to me, but we'll try it out.

I may have misunderstood this, but does that mean that it's possible that there could be one featured map for 6 days?

Remember the anger and the riots when a map was featured for 2 days? Why not make it 7 reviews across a whole week? That way if the reviewer wants, they can make it a one a day system, or they can have 2 every 2 days, or some other fantastic combination of their own discovery.

That makes more sense to me, but again is based on the assumption that I actually understand what you're saying. :S

Fixed your post, squibbles.

What we mean is that for one day, one/multiple Reviewer(s) will have the option to Feature multiple maps, but we will still have at least one Featured map every day as long as nobody is slacking. I'll make a new post with all the details later. We can decide on it later too. If you guys don't like it we'll change it back.
