That only works with short sightedness (Holy shit that's a word), when you're short sighted the lenses in your eye are thicker and you can laser them away to correct it but if you're long sighted the lens is thinner and lasering it would only make it worse. This is also why older people tend to wear glasses more often, the lenses in the eyes gradually get thinner (All information from a tutor where I work), due to this I'm not having laser eye surgery because in theory my eye sight should eventually auto-correct for a while (then I get long sighted).Spawn of Yanni wrote:4ish in my right eye, 3.5ish in my left, to answer the question that this topic seems to be edging towards. I don't really remember, since it hasn't changed in a long while. I'm hoping to laserify my face when I can.
Also no idea of the numbers but I'm short sighted.

That's ridiculously good! That means you see objects that are 50 feet away as though they were only 20 ft away!ǝʎn1ɔuı wrote:I'm like...20/50, on average.
My right eye has an astigmatism, which I had previously thought meant my retina was peeling off the back of my eye before my optometrist told me it actually meant I have a lump of extra tissue on my lens. Anyway, my right eye is worse than my left. I don't know what my vision is like without my contacts; I just know that I'm legally blind as it pertains to driving a car. My prescription is in the neighborhood of -6 in my left eye and -6.5 in my right.

That's what that figure means, doesn't it?ǝʎn1ɔuı wrote:Wait what.Tsukatu wrote:That's ridiculously good! That means you see objects that are 50 feet away as though they were only 20 ft away!ǝʎn1ɔuı wrote:I'm like...20/50, on average.
20/20 means you see objects that are 20 feet away as a normal person would see it 20 feet away.
30/20 means you see objects that are 20 feet away as a normal person would see it 30 feet away.
15/20 means you see objects that are 20 feet away as a normal person would see it 10 feet away.
But you've got some nutty 20/50 thing going on. I'm seriously impressed. You should be a sniper or a fighter pilot or something.

Really? I've only ever heard the second number be 20. At one point, my vision with contacts in was 13/20, which the optometrist told me meant that I could see objects 20 feet away with as much clarity as a person with "perfect" vision would have at 13 feet.bok_choy wrote:Nah, it's the other way around.Tsukatu wrote:That's what that figure means, doesn't it?

Well, I'm no optometrist, but the internet seems to agree that it's generally 20/x where lower x is better.Tsukatu wrote:Really? I've only ever heard the second number be 20. Isn't "20 feet away as though they were at 12 feet" the theoretical limit of any lens the size of the human pupil?Tsukatu wrote:Really? I've only ever heard the second number be 20. YEAH SO TSUKATU SEE YOU'RE WRONGLuminaflare wrote:I just got back from the opticians for my yearly check up (I don't need new glasses :D). He says the best eye sight you can get to is considered to be 20/10 but there are cases of 20/8 vision. That would objects 20 feet away as if it was 10 feet and away and 8 feet away respectively.
