Just watched most of the opening ceremony. Little hiccup on the torch lighting :P

Looking forward to watching some athletes eat some snow over the next two weeks.

earlier today a Georgian athlete doing a practice run in the luge flew off the track at a corner going 140 km/h and rammed into a pole. he died instantly.

I hope these Olympics will finish soon, I'm getting really irritated of all these promotional commercials on my television (note: my location).

NBC's tastelessness was also horrific ... if it bleeds, it leads.

That said, I'm excited for speedskating, which always results in harmless, amusing, disaster. Go Ohno!

(And ski jumping this afternoon was also cool.)

EDIT: Bob Costas just announced preceding yet another goddamn montage of the death that they would /not/ show the graphic footage any more for the rest of the Olympics. Obviously someone upstairs got complaints and shut them down. Too late, but w/e.

Moguls was fun to watch, must kill their knees.

The luge accident was absolutely awful. I saw the footage of it, man. He looks dead practically the second he crashes.

That's exactly what I thought and then six seconds later they announced that the current chick had had six knee surgeries.

Under what argument? Heil had an excellent run. Kearney's was just better yet.

But, yeah, southpaw, I mean, you can't say that completely objectively that she had a better run. It's still a matter of opinion. My argument is that Heil's air was worse but her technique in the moguls was flawless.

The Winter Olympics are so weird. We never seem to win the overall medal count, but so far we are in the lead.

USA - 6
GER - 4
FRA - 3

No. He wasn't even expected to medal, he kicked soon and died at the end. There was no choking involved, that was a great upset and our first ever medal in that event. ever.

Seven, actually. Bronze in Men's Downhill and Moguls, plus Men's 1500M and Women's Moguls, Silver in the same 1500M+the nordic, and of course, the Gold in Women's Moguls.
