Discuss sandwiches, particularly fillings. Photos are always welcome.

One of my favourite sandwiches has cheese and mustard. Simple and nice. What about you guys?

I hate sandwiches except butter and jam, or tomato bruschetta... otherwise I'll panic.

I have two staple sandwiches that I tend to order (otherwise, I just make one with whatever's in the fridge):

Whole Foods:

sourdough roll
mayo on two sides
mustard on one side
roast beef
cheddar cheese
tomato
pickles
lettuce

Subway:

whole wheat roll
oven-roasted chicken breast
american cheese
lettuce
tomato
pickles
onion
banana pepper
mayo
ranch dressing

Although at times when I've been at a total lack of ingredients, I've made multi-story PB&J. My usual is three slices of bread, but sometimes I go with the four.

Generally, I use a combination of:

Whole wheat bread
Mustard
Mayonnaise
Black pepper (in the mayo)
Ham (any type)
Turkey
Chicken
Provolone cheese
American cheese
Tomato
Lettuce
Onions
Another slice of whole wheat bread

A bunch of other stuff too. Italian dressing is good with chicken sandwiches.

I prefer to keep things simple; peanut butter (creamy) and jelly (grape) are easily my favorite ingredients ever to be nestled between two slices of (wheat) bread. Grilled cheese (thin-sliced ham and tomatoes optional, though recommended) is another winner.

I'm not much of a sandwich connoisseur—it's all good, really. Ham and cheese is a classic for a reason, as long as it's good ham. BLT also.

Does a yiros/gyros count as a sandwich? I am all about those things.

And since Tsukatu mentioned Subway: I can never bring myself to stray from their sweet onion chicken teriyaki because it is so good.

One of the best sandwiches I've ever had was deli-sliced turkey and bread-and-butter pickles on pumpernickel, with a homemade remoulade as a spread.

As far as the individual ingredients go, sourdough is the best bread. Anything from plain turkey and ham to pepperoni and Canadian bacon is good with me. Roast beef is always delicious, as is corned beef. For cheese, I like a sharp cheddar, cojack, or provolone. For spreads, mayonnaise and mustard is fine. I've also been known to dress my sandwiches with a little lettuce and tomato. (In fact, if you have any fresh picked tomatoes on hand, one of the best sandwiches ever is simply tomato and mayo. It doesn't sound very appealing, but it's absolutely amazing. I had them often as a kid.) I'll also sometimes go for an egg salad, chicken salad, or tuna fish sandwich.

On another note, toasted bread almost always improves the sandwich, though I'll sometimes be in the mood for some plain-ol' floppy sandwich bread.

That's not even the point; it's a disgusting sandwich. If that's what you call "good," then I can't believe that you've tried any other kind of sandwich.

Anyway, I prefer watery ketchup between two wet slices of wheat.
