The Bike Wheelie Challenge, because Kablizzy wanted me to change it.
Contestants are here
It's a mapping contest which lasts 2 weeks. It is arranged by 3 members: Hero, Da_guru andTheBlackLion.
Every first day of the week we publish a theme to go with the week, with some rules, some restrictions, etc... And the mappers will have 1 week to make a map in that theme.
After this, the judges also have a week for choice of the best map! So, the contest will be 2 weeks, and the judges will have 2 days to judge the maps. Good luck!
Rules
- You don’t have to post here to be in the contest.
- You have to put TBC in the tag!
- You can only submit one map and can't change the map after posting it.
- You have from Monday to Sunday NEXT WEEK at 12:00 **GMT** to post your map.
- If the rules aren't respected, the map is eliminated.
THE CONTEST STARTS MONDAY JULY 5TH
Here's how your map will be scored by our judges:
- Aesthetic x/15
- Gameplay x/15
- theme x/20
So your total points are x/50
The results of the contest will be posted two days after you finish with the mapping.
Here's the points for what place you come in:
1st place: 10 points
2nd: 8 points
3rd: 6 points
4th: 4 points
5th: 2 points
below: 1 points
The winner (1st place) of each round will win a DED map made by the 3 judges!

This actually includes two themes:
1. Build a map by only using E-,D- and half-Tiles (5-tiles).
2. Additionally you may only use enemies of one kind. Choose your favourite and don't use any other. Only enemies allowed, regardless of your choice, are mines.

Build a map, which starts in one of the three lowest lines and ends in one of the three top-most lines. The ninja shouldn't go down more than 5 blocks if possible. There should be a feeling of "ascending" throughout the map. Again atmosphere is everything.

There may be a bonus for those, who include the title reference in their map.

Make a level without any "active" enemies (i.e. zap/laser/chaingun drones, rockets, gausses, thwumps, floor guards), in other words all of those in the number section in editor mode, except for mines.
You may use all other objects as you like. But keep in mind: It's all about atmosphere.

Men... it's over... :'(
And what a final round ! This is without any doubt the best round in the contest. All the maps were unique. It was very difficult for me chose which map was better than the others. Look at the points... I swear that we have both judging a maximum objectively without regard to whether the other judge had ruled. I love you guys, you're all the four fucking good artist.
First rate is by DG, second is by me. Ded for chdrenkmann is comming (daguru will make it). Also i'm making the signatures.
1) 127-1: Radio Planet
by Chrdrenkmann
Gameplay 11/15 14/15
Aesthetics 11/15 13/15
Theme 16/20 19/20
Total 38/50 46/50
42/50
DG: Quite tough map. I didn't like your choice of using laser drones in here - their range was too wide for the ninja to be able to cross a room without having to fear a second laser threatening your 90+-second-life. On the other side: intelligent pathing, I ended up two or three times at a dead end.
TBL: The gameplay is very amazing, the puzzly atmosphere combined to the intense laser dodging make this map beautiful. Really good use of the tile and one-way for making an awesone aesthetic. Also I’ve never see a best use of laser. THIS is the best TBC maps ever made. It’s bad that the contest is over, you was making wonder.
2) East Egyptian Cigar Box
by firetamer2
Gameplay 13/15 13/15
Aesthetics 13/15 10/15
Theme 17/20 16/20
Total 43/50 40/50
41.5/50
DG: Expertly crafted map. Very fun. Awesome, yet simple aesthetics. Only problem was, that there wasn't much variety in the ninja's moves, I felt like doing the same thing all the time, but that was only a minor weakness. Certainly got replay value.
TBL: The gameplay is really intense, clever and like a little puzzlish too. It’s the best point of the map. Aesthetics is a little too repetitive but you use perfectly the drone. It is an excellent “competition” map.
2) The Grand Finale
by AVATAR_FANATIC
Gameplay 13/15 13/15
Aesthetics 11/15 13/15
Theme 16/20 17/20
Total 40/50 43/50
41.5/50
DG: Wonderful flow, major reason why I enjoyed this map so much. It wasn't an aesthetical masterpiece, but on the contrary it could shine with good gameplay.
TBL: Your best TBC map without any doubt. I love the experimental atmosphere and the race feeling in this map. You make an excellent use of chaingun and a lot of the others objects are very clever placed. Some tiles parts are a little annoying and some object are useless or don’t make the aesthetic better.
3) 16-4 Overwhelming Pixilation
by BluePretzel
Gameplay 11/15 12/15
Aesthetics 10/15 12/15
Theme 14/20 16/20
Total 35/50 40/50
37.5/50
DG: Bit too many useless objects for my liking. Very effective chaingun, though this way the right room felt extremely empty. Cleverly placed (trap)door switches.
TBL : Very addictive map. I love the gold placement, the z-snaped ninja or the mines near the exit. Feel like a little empty but you well use chaingun. Maybe use 2 would be better for the theme.
So Fourth round is now ending... And congratz to Chdrenkmann who finally win a round ! ;) All the 5 maps made for this round was extraordinaryfun to play and judge, so i thanks everyone and i really hope you will made a map for the last round of the TBC. Remember top 3 will win a custom signature !

TBL: I’m in love with this map. This is the kind of map you can’t stop playing it. Your map is a drug Chdrenkmann, a very powerful drug that brings happiness. Each time you play this map gameplay is like different. Tileset is brilliant, gold patterns are unique. And this map can be called Trinity, this is the best use possible of the 3 drones, effective at 100%. The ONLY thing that disappointed me is the bottom left room with 4 switches, gravity or chaingun always kill me when I go in or out… This is maybe the best map made for TBC.
DG: Very good theming in your map. I especially liked how the 3 drones started at nearly the same spot and parted then, each in a different area of the map. They worked quite effectively together, too. Those golden hearts looked pretty, plus the one-ways were a nice touch.
There were some superfluous objects, though.
Fact of the Day: Tri- is a prefix for three - AVATAR_FANATIC

TBL: This is very good! I love climbing the blocks at the start with the chaingun and the others rooms are very well agenced. I’m not a fun of the aesthetic but it’s really ok. Trinity atmosphere is good. Mixing the drone’s rooms would be better.
DG: Excellent start, great idea to divide the trinity into optional gold chambers. Some of the lower gold could have been arranged more “appetizingly”.

Aesthetic 12/15 10/15
Theme 16/20 16/20
Total 39/50 37/50
38/50
TBL: Aesthetic was totally Bluepretzelish like I like. Gameplay is really good for speedrun or agd and I particularly like the way you use Laser and Seeker drone duo. I just don’t really like the floorguard at the end and I find the chaingun part a little random.
DG: You sacrificed tiles for gameplay, which generally isn't a bad choice. But that's why the map became a bit unaesthetic. Nevertheless, I liked to choose the right way, good work on gp.
7 Characters in Search of a Ninja – Firetamer2

Aesthetic 10/15 9/15
Theme 12/20 14/20
Total 33/50 32/50
32.5/50
TBL: This map too long and too frustrating for me but aesthetic is ok, gameplay is interressant and I’ve find some really cool idea into it. Also you’ve forget that the theme is Trinity, all the others enemies are normally secondary. Anyways this is not a bad map.
DG: Chaingun section was superb, but the rest was very disappointing. Too many cramped chambers to be fun. Sorry, but tileset looked kinda ugly to me.
This map - ENT474

Aesthetic 8/15 7/15
Theme 12/20 14/20
Total 30/50 32/50
31/50
TBL: I don’t like the way you’re blocked by the drones. The 3 gold at the start are useless so… laser drone is, too. I don’t like the corridor aesthetic but theme is quite well respected.
DG: Good minimalism (I guess that's your strenght), quite fun to work yourself through the tunnels with a feeling of claustrophobia. Conversely aesthetics were a weak point of “This map”.

DG: Clever, puzzlish and sometimes tricky gameplay. Gives the player some brain challenges. This concept provided lots of fun. Excellent realisation of the given theme.

DG: (Very) good tiles. Middle, flowy part was pretty awesome, but lowest and topmost parts seemed to be made in a different style, which I didn't really like. Especially having to slow down in the finish section was rather annoying. Stick to only one concept next time. Overall gp was alright.
AF: I liked the enemies (or lack of). It gave a sense of freedom in your ascent, which was a clear one, at that. And great aesthetics.

Final Score 38/50
DG: This should belong to the original n columns – very metanetsque. Included some interesting challenges, hardest of which was AGD, the floorguard was nasty at times.
AF: The gameplay felt awkward, and I didn't get the "ascension" vibe from it, but I liked the tiles. I didn't expect that type of tiles with this theme.

TBC Comment: Totally fall in love with this map, played, replayed and rereplayed so many times. Awesone aesthetic, excellent door system, excellent “PF” idea (know you play TMN ^^). The only thing is that some mines are to irritating.

Sorry, am I not processing this correctly? You said the judges have a week to judge, and then you say they have two days? And if the contest is two weeks, we could only do two rounds before the month ends, whereas if it was a week to map and 2 days to judge, we could fit 3.Hero wrote:After this, the judges also have a week for choice of the best map! So, the contest will be 2 weeks, and the judges will have 2 days to judge the maps. Good luck!

Yeah, sorry it all sounds a bit confusing, Hero mixed up some things in that description.aerodynamic wrote:I think I'm up to quintuple-cha. As in, sure, I'll take part. Though, to be fair, there is a decent chance that I'll drop out, depending on how busy I end up being.Sorry, am I not processing this correctly? You said the judges have a week to judge, and then you say they have two days? And if the contest is two weeks, we could only do two rounds before the month ends, whereas if it was a week to map and 2 days to judge, we could fit 3.Hero wrote:After this, the judges also have a week for choice of the best map! So, the contest will be 2 weeks, and the judges will have 2 days to judge the maps. Good luck!
One round actually includes:
- 1 week time to create a map in the given theme for the contestants
- 1 additional week (=2nd week), that's when the judges have time to rate, communicate and make the ded map for the winner.
That's why one round lasts two weeks and that's why it's called the Biweekly/Bike Wheelie (lol) Challenge.
I hope everything's clear now. BlackLion will be available to answer further questions concerning round 1 or the contest in general.
The theme will be published today. Please check this thread constantly for changes.

Its supposed to peaceful, with non-agressive enemies. Super speed is needed to get smooth highscores.
Had to get this done fast, because I'm off on a holiday today. See you guys (quite literally) on Monday!

Second, as you can see, Bluepretzel didn't respect the rules, he has make a level with moving enemies...
It's the first entri and so, i accept that you make exeptionnaly another level.
But now, please read carefully the rules for the round one (be zen) !The only way to use drone is to use zap drone in NAN mode... No moving enemy or "active" enemy.
And third, i will just say that the idea for this round is mine ;)

Damn it Kablizzy. I clicked on this thread in hopes of seeing something pertaining to bike wheelies and I was extremely disappointed. I'm blaming you for this.Kablizzy wrote:I hereby move that we rename this thread the "Bike Wheelie Challenge"
While I agree that this is a better title, there needs to be a picture of a bike in the first post or something.
