After bowling with some friends we stopped at this 24 hour diner where I ordered a slice of apple pie with melted cheddar cheese on top. I received the weirdest looks from both the waiter and everyone at the table. I suppose this isn't exactly a common thing out here in California. My family is from the Midwest so I believe that's where I got that from, though I hear its popular in Canada as well. Discuss.

No. I don't even like apple pie, for that matter.

Insofar as Canada is concerned, I think it's just a Midwest thing again. It's not really a thing in Ontario or Quebec or BC but you'll get asked about it in restaurants in Alberta. Y'all are a bunch of farmers who like cheese on their pie.

The "bite" from an well-aged piece of cheddar is supposed to nicely offset the sweetness of the apple pie.

No, I mean, not enough people went to go see it. I am not analyzing a grand trend with respect to two days of RottenTomatoes "Fresh" scores.

Inserting cheese where it doesn't belong, particularly in melted form, is characteristic of the Midwest and South.

Never even had an apple pie. We down here prefer the meatier pies. Now mince and cheese; that's a pie.

I love pie. I love cheese. Pie with cheese? Certainly. Can't say I would have thought of that on my own, and I hadn't heard of it, and I don't know how you would get the cheese to stay on the top, and I'd kind of rather have the cheese on the side, generally, but it still sounds good.

I live in the middle of Kansas, and I've never heard of it. I blame Missouri, like all good over-zealous Kansans do.

Yeah, LF, I'm gonna need you to explain that one to me.
By which definition of "pie" is the second not a pie? And what is the second, if not a pie -- an oversized pastry?

I totally agree with LF. Meat and pastry are what makes a pie; without those, it isn't.

Just making a vague comment on the fact that you guys took our glorious meat pies and made them in to deserts. And yes it is.

Meat pies are better innuendo than they are pies. That said, sweet and savory pies are actually both pies (only the sweet ones are miles better, chumps).
