During our school's compulsory once-a-term Sunday chapel, our reverend was talking about money. He said some stuff about charities, and giving money away. I then thought, 'Hmm... If I had money, what charity would I give to?'

Even now, I'm not sure. If I were to give to a charity, it would be one that could solve a problem that may have negative effects on the whole earth in the future. Most charities are made to solve short-term problems, such as poverty and disaster relief.

I don't think poverty ever has been or ever will be a short-term problem. Nor disasters, really.

If I had money I'd probably end up giving to organisations along the lines of the EFF and the ACLU. Because I care more about abstract concepts than lives.

This is what I was thinking; I just can't find a charity that I support that reflects this view.

The EFF looks quite good, though.

Actually if given the chance and the money, I would only give it to a local charity. I feel like that is the best way to give back, because you've been taking from the community (along with everyone else) and I would love to see those certain areas around the city cleaned up of everything, living in a much better city that way, along with the other 1,999,999 people in Vegas.

*Perhaps this local charity would help out our school system. It is the 5th largest in the USA, but really really bad. D:

It was pointedly worded but nevertheless true.

I totally donated to a charity in Vegas.
The EFF was having a waffle sale (the price of each waffle was "whatever you can donate to the EFF") while some DEFCON staff drank heavily and gave a presentation about hilarious security failures.
...although I suppose it wasn't based in Vegas, but I saw a poor excuse to mention DEFCON and I seized it.

Not sure if either one was meant for me... but as I believe I'm the only community member that lives/lived in Vegas I don't really follow that.. there's just more clubs here than usual, and many interesting (architecturally) hotels on the strip.

...and fantastic buffets. Can't forget that.

There are great buffets in Vegas. I can verify this if I scan this photo of me covered in the remnants of shrimp.
