I imagine it'd be quite brutal on slower connections - which could possibly be something that they're starting to not care about in this day and age, since that's also the case with the new image search.

Oops. I didn't read the part about rolling out to registered users, and just clicked the link saying "Try Now," which took me to Google. But just Google.

They were saying in the conference that it wasn't too taxing on most slowish connections, but really really slow connections would have it turned off automatically.

I tried signing out of my Google account to see if I could try this, but no good. In other news, Google Instant is the first most popular Google search in the last hour.

I'm not sure if I like it. Having the results instantly is nice once you are done typing, but it is annoying for them to keep changing while I type. Obviously I can't have my cake and eat it. I'll have to decide whether to turn it off or not.

They mentioned that Opera wasn't supported yet, but I had a go with Chrome and it didn't quite work. I started typing and it went to the search page as it did in the video, but no results showed up - it was continuously blank, even as I kept typing. I suppose I'll have another go later.

This, except I am definitely turning it off. It's too annoying and I get results within a fraction of a second after typing anyway.

People too lazy to move their finger over the Enter button and press down frighten me; I don't know how I feel about people making that motion obsolete altogether.

I'm still not sure of what's the problem of this Google Instant thing for some of you (the ones who actually tried it, of course. Care to explain?

It's very distracting when I am trying to search for something.

I love it. Did you see the estimate of something like 11 hours saved per second? that's because so many people use google each second. Anyway, I think some people are missing why this is actually useful. It's not so you don't have to click enter, although there's nothing wrong with that on its own. Basically instead of typing a search, hitting "enter," and then having to revise your search until you get the result you want, it's a fluid type, look, type, look, click. And since, as is mentioned in the link, we can look through results much faster than we can type, this speeds up our mind's process of finding exactly what it needs to look for.

I don't understand why this is a thing anyone would want. What use does it serve?

Edit: Mmm, I guess I'm not really the target audience, because unlike the typical searcher I certainly don't spend 9 seconds typing my search, and usually know exactly what I'm looking for.

As a Chrome user, most of my Google searches are done through the address bar. Going instead to google.com, waiting for that interface to load, and then typing in my query would make up for the time I'd save on typing out the query in full in the first place.
