Hotel Dénouement

You slowly come to, lying on a cold floor. Trying to remember exactly how you even fell asleep in the first place, you gather your thoughts and slowly orient yourself in a sitting position. With eyes still closed, you allow your senses to roam your surroundings. You smell something metalic, lingering over the flowery perfume scent in the air. You feel the unyeilding hardness of the floor below you. You hear the faint grunting of something else. Grunting?

You snap your eyes open and soon wish you hadn't so. You are greeted with a vertigo inducing sight; looking down and up, you can see that the floors are transparent. You can clearly see five floors, where the transparency ends with solid carpet below, and ceiling above. You wonder at this new development when out of nowhere, you hear a mechanical voice, issuing from some unknown speaker.

"Find you way up and out"

As the echo of the voice fades, you dwell on those six ominous words. You're trapped. And you need a way out.

And so begins the mystery of the Hotel Dénouement.

You continue to examine your surroundings. Looking to your left and right, you see doors only present on one side of the hallway. The doors are placed at seemingly random intervals, ranging to almost adjacent to eachother to fifty feet apart. Rusting numbers reside above each room, reminding you of the feel of a hotel. One of the doors seems to be a grille. Walking towards it, you can make out four more identical grilles on each floor, all aligned in a vertical column. The word "LIFT" is printed in block letters beside the lift entrances. Down on the first floor, you can discern a set of signs surrounding the lift.

Turning around, you examine the doorless wall, and the only thing present is wallpaper, peeling in some places, and completely gone in others. There seemed to be colors on the wallpaper, showing in some spots, but mostly faded away.

Your attention is drawn to the old fashioned candles that line the walls. On both sides, are candles that look as though they were freshly lit. The longer you observe them however, the more you are convinced that they aren't shrinking in size, but maintaining their height. Walking over to one, you blow the candle as a test. It goes out. Confused, you dwell on this. Then in a sudden realization, you realize.

You're not alone in this.

I look down at the first floor's lift and try to read the set of signs surrounding it.

I walk over to bhz, who is reading the sign next to the lift.

"So I'm gussing that you don't know how we got here, do you?"

I turn to read the sign as well, rubbing my eyes in an attempt to clear them up.

"Do you think we can get this lift working? I mean, we need to get up and I don't think there are any stairs."

I realize I've forgotten something and turn back.

"Oh. I'm xwd. Obviously, not my real name, but it's a hell of a lot cooler, y'know?"

I grab my phone and take pics to accompany the stories I will one day tell about this to my grandkids. I then grab anything solid and heavy (ice machine, etc) and try to smash a hole in the wall bordering the outdoors.

I figure that one way out is through a secret passage of some sort. I twist all the candlesticks on the wall in the hope that something happens.

I check the rusted numbers on the doors.
I try to find out which materials the door is made of.
I listen at each door to check whether anything is going on inside.
I try one door to see whether it is locked.

I walk around the floor, knocking upon the various doors, checking them. After knocking, I put my ear to each door, checking to see if I can hear anything.

Tired, I then lay down in the corridor, and take a nap.

Will be AFK until this time tomorrow at the earliest.

I find a welcome sign: "Welcome, to the Hotel Denouement. All Resting rooms will follow the RR"

"Wait...RR?"

I also find a sign saying that lifts cannot be used in the event of a fire. Typical...

The final sign is scratched off...I can't read it!

I walk over to the doors and put my ear to them, hoping to hear something. I also knock on each door on my floor.

I hear bhz speaking up on Floor 2. I look upwards at him through the transparent floors and listen to what he's saying.
When I hear him say RR, I take out my phone from my pocket and search wikipedia for RR.
I shout upwards at bhz.

sorry about the short delay. i was sleeping. And for easinesses sake, Since a couple of you have done this action...

As you walk around your floor, you realize that it loops around; you see the lift appear again and again, and the doors repeat their numbers over and over.

You also see each person that you passed, over and over.

As for the door numbers, sorry for not specifying, but each door leads somewhere unique, so you can't be so general as to say "I try to open a door". So to alleviate that...
On your trek in that endless circle, you observe the door numbers on each floor.

Inside Room 11 I see a sign saying "Resting Room". It looked as it was used for dining.
There are some scrambled eggs scattered on a table in the room.
I go and examine the scrambled eggs to see whether they are fresh or have gone bad. Maybe it could give me some knowledge of the when this room had been last used.
After examining the scrambled eggs I search the room in more detail, looking under tables and examining the ceiling, walls and floors.

The scrambled eggs look as though they have been there for sometime and might not be safe to eat.

I was looking forward to eating them.
I pickup a chair from the room, go back out to the hall and try to smash a hole in the wall with it.

Raif's attempts to smash a hole in the wall only succeed in breaking the chair, and ripping up more of the wallpaper.

He also succeeds in making lots of noise.

I look at the broken pieces of chair in my hands disappointed.
I look up and around at the people who were still lying on the floor sleeping. I was hoping I'd woken them up because we could use some help figuring the way out of here.
I walk over to the lift and examine the signs around it. I also look closely at the one where the message has been scratched off, thinking that bhz could have missed something from 1 floor above.
I also look at the lift and the wall around the lift for any buttons which could be used to work the lift.

"Find you way up and out", were the words continuously repeating in my mind. Obviously whoever designed this hotel had a faulty grasp of English grammar. However this was only a passing thought. What I had just woken up to in front of me was much, much more disturbing.

I look around. The whole place is really disorientating. It had the apparent feel of a hotel, yet at the same time, it was too bizarre to be anything recognisable. I check my current view against the database of locations installed in my brain. The message is clear: 404 Not Found. No GPS here either. I momentarily wonder whether I should have upgraded the mere 640KB of RAM that I had in my brain. However, there's nothing I can do about it until I get out of here.

I run a quick scan on my brain to see whether I am hallucinating. No viruses found. But then I realise that I don't actually have any proper antivirus software in my brain, since I'd removed it earlier to free up disk space. Bad idea. With a great sigh, I start to explore the surroundings.

I wander over to the wall to the right, on the opposite side of the building as the lift was. The wallpaper looks suspiciously like some rubbish from IKEA. Except that this one doesn't have nearly as many holes in it as it would have, if that were true. I slowly peel the wallpaper off. There is a wall behind it, all hard and cold and apparently unbreakable from the efforts of Raif. I examine the wall very closely, in search of any secret messages that might be hiding behind the wallpaper, and I find...

Yes, I'm actually half-person half-robot in case you haven't already noticed.
