I notice that not many people in the community enjoy rap music, or just don't talk about. I enjoy Kid Cudi, Gucci Mane, Drake, and more I can't remember.

Anyone out there like rap? If so, who do you like/listen too.

Now here's a little story I've got to tell, about three bad brothers you know so well. It started way back in history, with Adrock, MCA, and me [him], Mike-D. Alternatively, a folk version.

Rap isn't a genre, it's a vocal styling in hip-hop.

God, this genre is so vast and so ill-defined that I can't possibly answer your question properly but here are some of my personal favourites. Artist - Album.
  • Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass
  • Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein
  • Jurassic 5 - Quality Control
  • Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury
  • Comfort Fit - Polyshufflez
  • Common - Be
  • Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus
  • Dälek - Absence
  • Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030
  • Dessa - A Badly Broken Code
  • DJ Spooky - Under the Influence
  • DJ Shadow - Endtroducing.....
  • Dr. Dre - The Chronic
  • Dub Pistols - Speakers and Tweeters
  • Dudley Perkins - Holy Smokes
  • Eric B. & Rakim - Paid In Full
  • Gorillaz - Demon Days
  • Haiku D'État - Haiku D'État
  • IAM - L'École Du Micro D'Argent
  • J Dilla - Donuts
  • Jay-Z - American Gangster
  • Kid Koala - Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Madvillain - Madvillainy
  • MC Solaar - Prose Combat
  • Method Man - Tical
  • Murs - Murs for President
  • Nas - Illmatic
  • Noel Zancanella - A Fantasy for Electromagnetic Tape
  • Nujabes - Metaphorical Music
  • OutKast - Aquemini
  • Oxmo Puccino & The Jazzbastards - Lipopette Bar
  • P.O.S. - Never Better
  • Pretty Lights - Making Up A Changing Mind
  • RJD2 - Deadringer
  • Shad - The Old Prince
  • Talib Kweli - The Beautiful Struggle
  • Techno Animal - The Brotherhood of the Bomb
  • The Coup - [2001] Party Music
  • Why? - [2008] Alopecia
  • Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
  • Zion I - [2005] True & Livin'
This isn't a comprehensive list. I'm sure I've missed some. Nor is it the best that hip-hop has to offer; it's just a list of my favourites. Also, Donfuy, while that may be technically correct, rap and hip-hop are interchangeable in colloquial speech.

Myself (And Ranny) are rap connoisseurs - I'm more into 90s rap than today's stuff, but among my favorites are Outkast, Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, and... fuck, too many to list.

I like Dalek, Wu-Tang, and King Geedorah much more than a white kid from Canada has any business.

This is somewhat tangential, but some slam poetry comes pretty close to rap.

uh, Gang Starr
MF Doom
a little Roll Deep
Shurik'n
Black Star
Mos Def
De La Soul
Binary Star
Dangerdoom
Dizzee Rascal (the older stuff mostly)

I dunno. more. I'm more into hiphop as a whole though, including like all the electronic stuff, and some of the genres that have partially sprouted/are often mixed with it like wonky and a bit of glitch.

Not an expert, a connoisseur. Rap is Ranny's game, rather than mine, but I'm sure I could hold my own in some Name That Tune. Also, Jurassic5 and Chali 2na are amazing.

I wish this thread was about pop, so I could make a witty remark involving "name that Autotune".

On a related note, Kanye's latest album is fantastic. As for other artists, I listen to Chiddy Bang, Jay-Z, Effect, Gorillaz, Beastie Boys, Cee-lo, Big Boi, Jaydiohead if that counts, A Tribe Called Quest, Outkast and De La Soul.
People write to me and say, "I’m giving up, you’re not talking to me." I just write them a simple message like, "Never give up," you know? And it changes their life

Admittedly, I've only heard I'm New Here but it's a bit of a stretch to call that hip-hop. S'more spoken work/soul/blues.

For anyone unaware, there are 4 Pillars constituting the hip hop lifestyle:
  • Rap
  • Deejaying
  • B-Boying
  • Graffiti
and sometimes Beatboxing is considered to be the fifth element.

EDIT: and Big L and DJ Krush. How could forget about these two gentlemen?

Oh, I also add Wiz Khalifa, Dr. Dre, and Eminem to my list. I can usually listen to anything rap except the recent Lil Wayne.
