I'm still amateur with this kind of image manipulation, but I think my current sig came out quite nicely. I wanted the tentacles to look like they were swimming in the purple of the forum background.

I really need help with cutting out aspects of images to use on transparent backgrounds. I'm having difficulty making the cuts clean. Any advice? I use CS3.
